    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsLaura studies how land-use changes facilitate interactions between people and wildlife affecting infectious disease emergence. She currently focuses on the spatial dispersion and transmission of zoonotic and vector-borne diseases along and between human and non-human primate networks.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsNina’s research interests lie at the intersection of environmental, health, and development economics and she is broadly interested in the social and environmental determinants of population health. Her dissertation looks at the health and environmental externalities of brick manufacturing in Bangladesh. Her other work is focused on reproductive health access and policies in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Israel.

    Nicole Buckley Biggs

    BioNic Buckley Biggs is an agriculture and conservation social scientist trained in rangelands management, environmental governance, anthropology, and geography. She conducts interdisciplinary research into the human dimensions of natural resources governance and rural land use change in the context of California rangelands. Her work focuses on food systems and working lands policy. Using both qualitative and quantitative data, Nic’s current projects investigate the interplay of public and private sector programs from the local to the international level, the economics of payments for ecosystem services, and the influence of landowners’ perceptions on land management and program participation.

    Before graduate school, Nic worked as Campaign Director for the Northern Sierra Partnership project at The Nature Conservancy and previously as Assistant Director of the Aspen Institute’s Energy & Environment Program.
