    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsPermeability modelling on chemically compacted NaCl sieved samples, undergoing pressure-solution processes. The samples were imaged through X-ray microCT and the evolution of porosity in time was monitored and characterized. Permeability modelling through Lattice Boltzmann calculations will allow to understand the spatio-temporal evolution of dynamic transport properties during these processes.

  • Mostafa Momen

    Mostafa Momen

    Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Earth System Science

    BioMostafa Momen is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences at Stanford University. In his postdoc, he studies the effects of water availability on vegetation dynamics with the help of remote sensing satellite data. He did his undergraduate work in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Sharif University of Technology. Inspired to explore the mysteries of fluid motion, he started his Ph.D. in the environmental fluid mechanics lab at Princeton University, where he was awarded the Gordon Y.S. Wu Fellowship in Engineering. During the 2014-2015 academic year, he was also an exchange scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. In his Ph.D. research at Princeton, Mostafa investigated the underlying dynamics of the unsteady atmospheric boundary layer by integrating numerical simulations and mathematical modeling to overcome uncertainties associated with wind-energy forecasting.

    BioI am an earthquake seismologist with an engineering background. My work includes developing new methods and algorithms through interdisciplinary approaches and applying them to challenging problems in observational seismology. My research areas are: (1) microseismic monitoring and induced seismicity, (2) signal processing, (3) machine learning, (4) wave attenuation and propagation, (5) seismicity analyses, (6) seismic hazard and risk analyses, and (7) geomechanical modeling.
