Holly Alpine

BioHolly Alpine is an environmental leader with more than a decade of experience mobilizing employees and shaping climate advocacy inside the tech sector. She co-founded the Enabled Emissions Campaign, which holds Big Tech companies accountable for using advanced technologies to help fossil fuel companies extract oil and gas more cheaply and efficiently. Before launching this advocacy campaign, Holly co-founded and scaled Microsoft’s global employee sustainability network to 10,000+ members. She also founded the company’s Community Environmental Sustainability program, which established corporate policy for investing in sustainability projects in datacenter communities worldwide. Holly played a central role in strengthening Microsoft’s climate commitments by creating direct channels between employees and senior leadership and elevating climate advocacy as a shared responsibility across the company. She also has served on the boards of American Forests and Zero Waste Washington, and is an accomplished plant-based mountain athlete.

Carlos Centeno Lairet

BioCarlos is a 2026 Ethics & Tech Practitioner Fellow at the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society. He co-founded SOMOS Civic Lab. At the lab, the team is researching and designing tools to democratize generative AI in Global Majority countries. Somos is part of the UNDP AI Trust & Safety Programme, and it's supported by the Pulitzer Center's AI Accountability program. As MIT Emerging Talent Director, he equips learners from migrant and refugee communities with computer science skills. He co-founded and directed MIT's Governance Innovation Initiative, as Associate Director of Innovation; co-designed and launched MIT's first Governance Innovation Research Fellowship, and hosted MIT's "Power to the Who" governance innovation podcast. He was previously at the UN for 10 years, where he worked in community and government preparedness to natural disasters based in Latin America, Asia and Africa. His AI (NLP) prototype ALIA was a Google launchpad finalist in Munich (2018). He has supported investigative journalism projects at Pro Publica on disappearances and detentions by the US federal government.

Louie Ortiz

Research - Post-Bacc, Ethics In SocietyBioLouie is a Research Associate in the Technology Ethics & Policy Rising Scholars Program at the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society. Louie works with the Embedded Ethics team to weave ethical reflection into the core computer science courses at Stanford, investigating its effectiveness. He is particularly interested in how institutional frameworks shape underrepresented students’ engagement with ethical reflection in technology, and how research can inform more inclusive approaches to technical education across academic spaces. Louie is a first-generation graduate from UC Berkeley, where he received his bachelor's degree in Data Science with a concentration in Philosophy.

Adam Spitzig

Student Worker, Ethics In SocietyBioAdam Spitzig is a PhD candidate in Environment and Resources (E-IPER) at Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability. He is a historical ecologist and data scientist whose research examines long-term biodiversity dynamics and their human drivers.
His work integrates paleoecological data (especially fossil pollen records), archaeological and historical sources, geospatial analysis, and statistical modeling to understand when and how human societies have increased, maintained, or reduced biodiversity. He is particularly interested in identifying cases of sustained anthropogenic biodiversity expansion and examining the institutional, economic, infrastructural, and land-use processes that produced them. His work also explores how long-term ecological knowledge can inform contemporary conservation and restoration strategy.
Before beginning his PhD, he led ecological modeling and machine learning initiatives in conservation and technology organizations, including Ducks Unlimited and several data-driven startups.
He holds a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University, a Master of Information & Data Science from UC Berkeley, a Master of Environmental Management and a Juris Doctor from Duke University, and a BA from the University of Florida. -
