BioFRISH BRANDT is part of the Medicine & the Muse program. Her class LASTING LETTERS AND THE ART OF DEEP LISTENING focuses on the power of listening and the unique role that letters of lasting import play in the healing process.
Her practice as a Letter Midwife [a practice which she created] began in 2014 working in palliative care and hospice and soon expanded to include many others. While a diagnosis is a catalyst to addressing one's unfinished business, being mortal proves to be incentive enough. In the past ten years she has assisted over 500 people write essential letters.
Prior to her practice as a letter midwife she had a 40-year career as co-partner and President of Fraenkel Gallery. From 2021-2022 she joined Stanford as a Distinguished Career Institute Fellow with a focus in the connections between medicine and the humanities. She has served on the planning committee for Stanford's BIG IDEAS IN MEDICINE Conference since 2023.
Frish leads workshops and speaks about the importance of writing one's essential letters as a means of addressing one's unfinished business.
