    BioI am a physician-scientist specializing in neuroimmunogastroenterology with a focus on the diagnosis and care of people suffering from complex multisystem disorders involving the neuroimmune axis. Neuroimmune axis disorders are conditions at the interface of the nervous and immune systems and often involve autonomic nervous system dysregulation, extracellular matrix|connective tissue dysregulation, endocrine dysregulation, and metabolic dysregulation. These conditions disproportionately and more severely impact females and often have an onset after an immune activating event such as an infection, surgery, concussion, or physical trauma. The complex, multisystem nature of these conditions requires the integration of information from multiple domains to diagnose and identify personalized therapeutic interventions. While at the University of Utah, I was part of the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Network from 2017-2024, an experience that furthered my resolve to develop a precision medicine program focused on neuroimmune axis disorders. I am an ardent patient advocate and serve on the boards of several patient advocacy groups.

    I am board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine, and Autonomic Disorders through the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties. Additionally, I have formalized clinical training in Neurogastroenterology and Medical Genetics, and a PhD in Neuroscience. I am a former NIH Building Interdisciplinary Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Scholar. To date I have published over 120 peer reviewed scientific articles and have received research funding from the NIH and private foundations.

    My research has spanned the study of mammalian cell signaling; the physiology, ecology, and evolution of microbial metabolism; and human-microbe interactions leveraging multiomics. Through several collaborative multidisciplinary research projects her current work is focused on decoding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of neuroimmune axis disorders. Some of these exciting projects include the application of next-generation environmental microbiology techniques to understand the complex human-microbiota interactions at mucosal interfaces; identifying genetic and environmental contributions to neuroimmune axis disorders; and the development and application of novel therapeutics to treat these disabling disorders.

These clinical decision support tools are designed to enhance patient safety, efficiency, and quality of care. My research focuses on rigorously evaluating--1) how these tools affect clinician knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors; and 2) how these tools affect clinical outcomes and efficiency of health care delivery.

    BioSarah is a 3rd-year Doctoral Student at PAU, completing an emphasis in Neuropsychology. Her current clinical practicum rotation is at the VA Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA, where she conducts neuropsychological evaluation of diagnostic and treatment planning for patients presenting with complex neurobehavioral and psychiatric disorders. Additionally, she is a neuropsychological assessor at the University of California, San Francisco. She is currently a graduate student researcher in the Department of Medicine with the Stanford Prevention Research Center at Stanford University.

    BioDr. Pakdaman practices Internal Medicine in Silicon Valley. She received her medical education at Yale University School of Medicine where she earned the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award for Women in Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Stanford University Hospital and was nominated for the Alwin Rambar-James Mark Award for Excellence in Patient Care.

    Dr. Pakdaman has been involved in developing innovative models for patient centered practice delivery. She has extensive background in Concierge Medicine as well as Executive Medicine. In addition, prior to coming to Stanford, she helped initiate and served as medical director for the Palliative Care inpatient consult service at El Camino Hospital. During that time, she served as chair of the El Camino Hospital Ethics Committee and as an advisory member for the Genomics Medicine Institute at El Camino Hospital. Drawing from her experiences working in both executive health programs and retainer based practices, she joined Stanford in 2012 to help launch Stanford Concierge Medicine. She subsequently served as the Medical Director of Stanford Concierge Medicine and Stanford Executive Health for five years where she helped pilot aspects of Stanford Precision Health platform.

    Dr. Pakdaman's clinical focus is adult primary care with health promotion and disease prevention/management.

    BioMy research interests thus far have focused on immunology, GI cancers, and improving quality of care for patients. I am passionate about understanding the different genetic and lifestyle factors that are involved in GI cancers and other colonic pathology, as well as improving systems of care to better manage the health and improve the outcomes of patients with these diseases. Towards that end, I have been involved in research in Lynch syndrome in order to bridge the gap between our current understanding of cancer risk in this high-risk population and the creation and implementation of guidelines worldwide. I also had the opportunity to work with collaborators in the International Mismatch Repair Consortium at the Department of Colorectal Medicine and Genetics with the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia where I saw firsthand the global efforts in the fight against colorectal cancer. In my current role as a staff gastroenterologist at the VA Palo Alto, I oversee the colorectal cancer prevention program. My goal is to continue to be part of and contribute to collaborative clinical and research efforts in order to provide the best care for our patients.

    BioDr. Pan is a board-certified, fellowship-trained medical oncologist with the Stanford Medicine Cancer Center and a clinical professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Oncology.

    He diagnoses and treats various oncological conditions and specializes in the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcoma. He creates personalized and comprehensive care plans for each patient he serves.

    Dr. Pan’s research focuses include understanding how genomic alterations impact the biological behavior and prognosis of sarcomas. In his work, he identifies new targets for developing innovative therapeutics for sarcoma treatment.

    Dr. Pan has more than sixty publications and presented many abstracts in several cancer and immunology conferences. His papers have been published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, JCO Precision Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, Nature Review Clinical Oncology, JCO Oncology Practice, Journal of Hematology and Oncology, and other peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented to his peers at international, national, and regional meetings, including the annual meetings of American Society of Clinical Oncology, Chinese Society Of Clinical Oncology, Connective Tissue Oncology Society and others.

    Dr. Pan is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association of Immunologists, American Association for Advancement of Science, Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, and Connective Tissue Oncology Society.     Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe are broadly interested in how the kidneys control salt, water, and electrolyte homeostasis in the body. Our disease focus is on kidney stone disease. We use cultured kidney cells, transgenic mice, human plasma/urine samples, and electronic health record data to study the pathogenesis of kidney stone disease. Our therapeutic focus is on the development of small molecule compounds that can be used for kidney stone prevention.

    BioMy long-term research interests involve development of algorithms using computational methods for early detection of coronary pathophysiology including, endothelial dysfunction and microvascular dysfunction (MVD) and/or a myocardial bridge (MB) in patients with angina and no obstructive coronary artery disease (NOCAD) and the identification of novel target therapies for primary prevention and improved prognosis in these patients. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Tremmel in Cardiovascular medicine at Stanford, I have been systematically studying to better understand the underlying pathophysiology of these patients, as well as the optimal use of diagnostic testing and treatment using the angina and no-obstructive CAD Registry at Stanford. In collaboration with other investigators in this field, we have published multiple scientific articles highlighting the limitations of current testing in this population and identification of novel diagnostic tools for early diagnosis and management of patients with angina and no obstructive CAD. My research also focuses on myocardial infarction (MI) in women, particularly spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). I have been involved in the design and execution of the first international collaborative study in SCAD, investigating peripartum vs. non-peripartum SCAD. This is analyzing the largest cohort of patients recruited from multiple US and non-US sites to understand the pathophysiological differences in these patient cohorts.

    BioDr. Divya Parikh is board-certified in both medical oncology and internal medicine. She obtained her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed both her residency and fellowship through Stanford University. During her fellowship, she simultaneously earned a Master of Science in health policy from Stanford University.

    Dr. Parikh specializes in the care of patients with genitourinary cancers. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she currently is a clinical assistant professor of medical oncology at Stanford School of Medicine. She mentors medical residents and fellows by sharing her insights, knowledge, and expertise.

    Dr. Parikh has a strong research background. She has published in multiple academic journals and presented her findings through poster and oral presentations at various medical conferences.

    BioDr. Parikh is a clinician scientist who cares for patients with and studies inherited (genetic) cardiovascular disease. She is the director of the Stanford Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease (SCICD) which is one of the largest of its kind in the country. SCICD integrates clinical and basic science with the expert care of patients with genetic cardiovascular conditions (e.g., cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias and vascular diseases). It provides cutting edge care for thousands of patients and families across the lifespan and integrates medical, surgical and genetics care. Our team includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, genetic counselors, exercise physiologists and scientists.

    Dr. Parikh's own clinical practice and laboratory are focused on the genetics of cardiomyopathies and their associated arrhythmogenic substrates. She completed clinical cardiology fellowship at Stanford School of Medicine and her medical residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Funded by multiple research grants from the NIH, her lab seeks to identify novel mechanisms and therapeutic technologies for genetic cardiomyopathy as well as better understand the natural histories of patients affected by these diseases.

    BioPrior to joining Genentech in 2018, Dr. Park was Associate Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, Co-Director of the IBD Center at Stanford Children’s Health, and an expert in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Currently, he is the Global Head of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Metabolism in Product Development at Genentech and Roche. Trained as a health economist, during his tenure in academia, Dr Park held research grants and funding support focused on the cost-effectiveness of biologic treatment strategies and novel non-invasive biomarkers for children and adults with IBD. He led national research registries at the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and scientific/clinical committees in numerous GI societies and physicians’ organizations. He received his BA in chemistry/biochemistry at Duke University, MD at University of Tennessee, and MSc in Health Economics/Policy at Stanford where he completed his clinical and postdoctoral trainings. He is Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Stanford University. At Genentech Roche, Dr. Park directs a team of clinical scientists and medical directors overseeing clinical phase drug development in gastroenterology, hepatology, and metabolism.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe lab is studying the mechanisms controlling B cell responsiveness and the balance between tolerance and autoimmunity. B cells deficient in CD72 are hyperresponsive to stimulation through the B cell receptor. We are examining the alterations in B cell signaling in these B cells and the mechanisms by which CD72 deficiency partially abrogates anergic tolerance. We hope to learn how deficiency in CD72 leads to spontaneous autoimmunity and increased susceptibility to induced autoimmune disease.

    BioShyon earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas - Austin, graduating with Honors. He completed coursework in Thermodynamics and Transport Phenomena in Living Systems at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University under Clare Hall fellow Dr. Kenneth Diller. After graduation, Shyon enrolled in medical school at UT Southwestern, and graduated with an M.D with Distinction in Research and as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society.

    He started his internal medicine residency at Stanford University Hospital in 2023. Currently, his interests include the use of AI in opportunistic coronary artery disease assessment, clinical integration of AI-based diagnostic algorithms through clinical trials, and preventive health advocacy through public policy. He plans to pursue a career in cardiology with a focus on advanced computational imaging techniques, medical device development, and advocacy both in his local communities and abroad.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am an infectious diseases epidemiologist who has done large field studies in both the US and developing countries. We research the long-term consequences of chronic interactions between the human host and the microbial world. My lab has done fundamental work establishing the role of H. pylori in causing disease and understanding its epidemiology. Currently, our research dissects how and when children first encounter microbes and the long term effects of these exposures on health.

    BioDr Nandan Parthasarathy is a hepatologist and physician-scientist in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University.
    After obtaining his medical degree in JIPMER, India, he completed a 2 year clinical research fellowship at Mayo Clinic, following which he completed his residency training at Cleveland Clinic, and GI and transplant hepatology fellowships at Mayo Clinic. During his fellowship, his research work was focused on exploring the immune mechanisms of liver injury in metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis.
    Clinically, he is focused on taking care of patients with MASH, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
    His career goal is to study the gut-immune system-liver injury axis in order to bring novel therapeutics from the bench to bedside in patients with liver disease.

    BioMichele L. Patel, PhD is an Instructor in the Stanford University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on optimizing digital health interventions for treating & preventing obesity. Digital interventions have potential for serving as first-line obesity treatments given their accessibility, low cost, and personalization. Dr. Patel is interested in testing innovative strategies to enhance engagement in these digital interventions. Leveraging an 'intervention optimization' paradigm (the Multiphase Optimization Strategy, MOST), she examines the unique and combined weight loss effects of intervention strategies. Optimizing interventions facilitates maximizing clinical impact while minimizing patient burden and healthcare costs.

    Dr. Patel received a career development award from NIH (K23; 2022-2027). This work investigates the most potent combination of self-monitoring strategies in a behavioral weight loss intervention for 176 adults with overweight or obesity. Dr. Patel is interested in using digital tools such as commercial apps, wearable devices, and text messaging to improve access to and engagement in treatment.

    Dr. Patel received her BA in psychology from Duke University in 2010 and her PhD in clinical psychology from Duke in 2018. She completed her clinical internship at the VA Palo Alto, specializing in behavioral medicine, and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Bone Marrow Transplantation

    BioMy research interest is to develop tolerance-inducing strategies aimed at treating autoimmune diseases with a focus on type 1 diabetes (T1D). My exploration into T1D began with the design of novel drug delivery systems for immunosuppression in islet transplantation. This effort enabled the formulation of an effective immunosuppression protocol, which resulted in prolonged survival of transplanted islets in murine models. Recently, I have pivoted towards inducing tolerance via mixed donor chimerism, which has demonstrated promise in augmenting islet survival by mitigating autoimmune responses in T1D. A key goal of my research is to reduce the dosage of immunosuppressive therapies while leveraging T regulatory cells (Tregs) to facilitate antigen-specific tolerance. I am investigating the potential application of TCR-engineered Tregs and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) Tregs to foster tolerance in both T1D and islet transplantation contexts. Additionally, I have been examining the functional roles of distinct Treg subsets in peripheral tolerance within non-obese diabetic chimeras, with the intent that elucidating the mechanisms underlying Treg-mediated suppression will inform the development of novel tolerance induction pathways for T1D.

    BioAnkita Patil is a public health researcher who passionately addresses health disparities through a social justice framework. With a BA in Social Psychology from The College of New Jersey, her research at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins tackles the health impacts of incarceration, trauma-informed care, and reproductive health challenges for incarcerated individuals. Her scholarly work contributed to policy reforms, including the co-authorship of an American Public Health Association policy statement which calls for the cessation of shackling incarcerated patients seeking medical care. Additionally, she has peer-reviewed a book focused on the impact of COVID-19 on Massachusetts’ prisons.

    Beyond academia, Ankita has engaged deeply with community initiatives, working with organizations such as the Transformational Prison Project to bolster restorative justice and the Pandemic Response Network to meet the needs of communities most impacted by the pandemic. As a fervent advocate for health equity, Ankita’s career is characterized by a steadfast dedication to developing practical, empathetic solutions to increasingly complex public health challenges. This dedication will continue to evolve as she pursues an M.S. in Community Health and Prevention Research at Stanford, where she aims to further her impact on public health practices and policies.

    BioTeja Patil completed her MD and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and an MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She has been a hospital medicine attending since 2015 and serves at the Director of Nocturnists and Director of Surgical Comanagement at VA Palo Alto.

    Her professional interests include medical education, night medicine and physician wellness. She coteaches the Resiliency Curriculum Series for the internal medicine residency program and is a certified Physician Coach.

    BioDr. Peng is a board-certified specialist in sports medicine and family medicine. He provides care for athletes of all ages and enjoys helping everyday patients achieve and sustain a healthy, active lifestyle. His expertise includes orthobiologics, such as platelet-rich plasma, and ultrasound-guided minimally invasive techniques to treat osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

    Outside of work, Dr. Peng enjoys reading, exercising, cooking, spending time with his wife, and creating fun mischief with his daughter and son. He is also fluent in Mandarin.

    BioDr. Mark Pepin is a clinical fellow within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiovascular Research Institute at Stanford University Hospital. Born and homeschooled in rural South Carolina, he received a BS in chemical engineering at Clemson University, where he also competed on the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country and Track teams as a distance runner. He completed an MS in biomedical engineering at UC Davis, followed by an MD-PhD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before entering residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Pepin was awarded the Humboldt postdoctoral research fellowship to conduct research in Heidelberg, Germany where he studied myocardial epigenetics and metabolism in the context of cardiometabolic heart failure. He has received research funding through the NIH/NHLBI, German Cardiac Society (DGK), and German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK). As a physician-scientist, Dr. Pepin aims to identify and leverage the epigenetic basis of cardiovascular disease to reverse its inherited and acquired forms. In his free time, he enjoys carpentry, running, and exploring the outdoors with his wife and their four children.

  • Marco Perez

    BioDr. Marco Perez's research goal is to better understand the fundamental causes of cardiovascular disease through the study of genetics and epidemiology. His group studies the genetic variations and environmental exposures that are associated with conditions such as atrial fibrillation and heart failure. He has led the studies of atrial fibrillation in Women's Health Initiative, one of the largest nation-wide population-based cohorts. He is currently conducting a large study monitoring for silent or asymptomatic atrial fibrillation in women from the WHI randomized to exercise intervention, and was co-PI of the Apple Heart Study, a clinical trial that validated the ability of a smartwatch to detect atrial fibrillation. He is now PI of the Clinical Coordinating Center at Stanford for the REACT-AF which is a clinical trial to evaluate efficacy and safety of a "pill-in-the pocket" approach to anticoagulation for AF using a smartwatch. He is interested in understanding the paradox that atrial fibrillation is less common in African Americans and Hispanics, despite a greater burden of risk factors such as hypertension. As director of the Stanford Inherited Arrhythmia Clinic, he evaluates families with rare inherited arrhythmias associated with sudden death such as Long QT and Brugada Syndromes and explores their links with novel genes. He also studies the genetic causes of very early onset atrial fibrillation. He also studies how best to use the electrocardiogram and imaging modalities using Machine Learning techniques to identify patients at risk for cardiovascular disease. Dr. Perez receives funding from the NIH/NHLBI, Apple Inc., Janssen and the Colson Foundation.

    BioAlexander C. Perino MD is a cardiac electrophysiologist, clinical informaticist, and cardiovascular researcher. In his clinical role, Dr. Perino treats patients with heart rhythm disorders at Stanford Health Care, performing catheter ablations and cardiac device implantations. In addition to complex ablation (e.g., atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation), Dr. Perino has expertise implanting leadless pacemakers, subcutaneous ICDs, and conduction system pacing leads (i.e., His bundle and left bundle branch area pacing leads). Dr. Perino is the medical informatics director for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford Health Care, providing informatics direction to improve 1) the quality and safety of cardiovascular care delivery and 2) patient and clinician experience derived from the electronic health record and related information and communication technologies. As a cardiovascular researcher, Dr. Perino uses large datasets to examine quality of care, outcomes, and risk prediction for heart rhythm disorders and cardiovascular disease.

    BioMichael A. Pfeffer, MD, FACP serves as Chief Information Officer and Associate Dean for Stanford Health Care and Stanford University School of Medicine. Michael oversees Technology and Digital Solutions (TDS), responsible for providing world class technology solutions to Stanford Health Care and School of Medicine, enabling new opportunities for groundbreaking research, teaching, and compassionate care across two hospitals and over 150 clinics. TDS supports Stanford Medicine’s mission to improve human health through discovery and care and strategic priorities to be value focused, digitally driven, and uniquely Stanford.

    Michael is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine and Division of Hospital Medicine with a joint appointment in the center for Biomedical Research (BMIR) in Stanford University School of Medicine. As such, Michael continues to provide clinical care as a Hospitalist Physician as well as teaching medical students and residents on the medicine inpatient wards.

    Prior to joining Stanford Medicine, Michael served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer for UCLA Health Sciences. During his tenure, Michael served as the lead physician for the largest electronic health record “big bang” go-live of its time, encompassing over 26,000 users. Michael subsequently became the first Chief Medical Informatics Officer for UCLA Health before transitioning into the Chief Information Officer position. Under his leadership, UCLA Health IT achieved numerous industry awards including the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Inpatient, Ambulatory, and Analytics Certifications; the Most Wired designation for eight consecutive years; US News & World Report’s Most Connected Hospitals; the Top Master’s in Healthcare Administration 30 Most Technologically Advanced Hospitals in the World; and the prestigious HIMSS Davies Award. Michael also implemented of one of the first ACGME-accredited Clinical Informatics Fellowship Programs and served as its Associate Program Director.

    Michael has lectured worldwide on health information technology; served on the national HIMSS Physician Committee and as a HIMSS Stage 7 international site surveyor; and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on health IT. Michael was featured in Becker’s Hospital Review as 10 physician CIOs to know and 12 standout healthcare CIOs and was one of LA’s top doctors in Los Angeles Magazine.

    BioDr. Phadke is a board-certified primary care internal medicine physician and Clinical Associate Professor of Primary Care & Population Health at the Stanford School of Medicine. She holds several administrative roles including Associate Physician Improvement Leader for the Stanford Department of Medicine, Associate Chief Quality Officer for Ambulatory Care and Population Health at Stanford Healthcare, and co-chair of the Quality Improvement Subcommittee for the Society for General Internal Medicine.

    In her clinical care, she enjoys forming deep and lasting relationships with patients. She seeks to listen actively and provide patients with guidance and support as they work toward their health goals. Her clinical expertise is in chronic disease management and preventive care.

    She teaches clinical primary care to internal medicine residents and medical students. She actively mentors student and resident quality improvement projects.

    Her scholarly focus is ambulatory quality improvement evaluation. She has published and presented on a wide array of topics including workforce QI engagement, quality improvement evaluation of primary care improvement initiatives, hypertension management, and quality improvement to narrow health disparities. She enjoys working with trainees and students on scholarship.

    BioMy interest in medicine and research was triggered by my mother’s battle with chronic hepatitis C, which made me realize the transformational power of biomedical research in treating patients. Therefore, my career goal is to become a physician scientist in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology dedicated to translating discoveries in the laboratory into novel medical treatment modalities. My research focus is alterations in phosphoinositides signaling and its pathogenesis in cancers of the hepatobiliary and luminal GI tract with the goal to identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention. I also have a particular interest in understanding the interface between chronic viral infection and cancer through studying how the innate and adaptive immune system are perturbed in chronic viral infections

She received her BS in Quantitative Biology and PhD in Health Informatics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.     BioDr. Pizula is a quadruple board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiologist with Stanford Health Care Cardiovascular Health. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine.

    Dr. Pizula specializes in cardio-obstetrics. She works with women before, during, and after pregnancy to determine their risk of heart-related pregnancy complications and improve their cardiovascular health. She has experience managing complex cardiovascular conditions, including congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, valvular disease, and cardiomyopathy. Dr. Pizula develops a customized care plan for each patient she treats. As a leader in cardio-obstetrics, she’s at the forefront of the latest advances in women’s cardiovascular care.

    Her research interests include the intersection of cardiovascular disease and pregnancy. She focuses on how pre-existing conditions like congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, or hypertension affect pregnancy. She has also explored how physiological changes during pregnancy affect existing heart disease and long-term cardiovascular risk. She uses her unique dual background in internal medicine and pediatrics to study how adult manifestations of cardiovascular disease impact pregnancy outcomes.

    Dr. Pizula is active in teaching medical students, internal medicine and obstetrical residents, and cardiology fellows. She teaches them strategies to improve how they assess and manage risk and deliver postpartum care to people with high-risk cardiac pregnancies. Dr. Pizula is the director of the Finishing School for Future Cardiologists for the California chapter of the American College of Cardiology, which offers leadership development to cardiology fellows.

    Dr. Pizula’s research has been published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics. She has authored three book chapters on cardio-obstetrics and global emergency medicine.

    Dr. Pizula has presented her research at conferences in the United States and internationally. As an expert in cardiovascular disease and pregnancy, she is frequently invited to speak to cardiologists, obstetricians, and anesthesiologists at the International Congress on Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy. She currently serves as a reviewer for the European Journal of Heart Failure and Heart Failure Reviews.
