Professor of Health Policy and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies
BioJoshua Salomon is a Professor of Health Policy, a core faculty member in the Center for Health Policy, and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. His research focuses on public health policy and priority-setting, within three main substantive areas: (1) modeling patterns and trends in major causes of global mortality and disease burden; (2) evaluation of health interventions and policies; and (3) measurement and valuation of health outcomes.
Dr. Salomon is an investigator on projects funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, relating to modeling of infectious and chronic diseases and associated intervention strategies; methods for economic evaluation of public health programs; measurement of the global burden of disease; and assessment of the potential impact and cost effectiveness of new health technologies.
He is Director of the Prevention Policy Modeling Lab, which is a multi-institution research consortium that conducts health and economic modeling relating to infectious disease. Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, Dr. Salomon was Professor of Global Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Lee M. Sanders, MD, MPH

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI conduct interdisciplinary research to understand literacy as potentially modifiable lens for addressing maternal and child health disparities from birth through early adulthood. Applying mixed methods approaches (health-services, epidemiology, ethnography), I have been principal investigator on extramurally-funded research projects (NIH, PCORI, FDA) that aim to examine "natural experiments" in policy and/or to design, implement and test novel system-level interventions.

BioDr. Schulman serves as Professor of Medicine, Associate Chair of Business Development and Strategy in the Department of Medicine, Director of Industry Partnerships and Education for the Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and, by courtesy, Professor of Operations, Information and Technology at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. He is the Director of Stanford's master degree program, the Master of Science in Clinical Informatics Management.
Dr. Schulman’s research interests include organizational innovation in health care, health care policy and health economics. With over 500 publications, Kevin Schulman has had a broad impact on health policy (h-index = 80). His peer-reviewed articles have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Annals of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the editorial/advisory boards of the American Heart Journal, Editor in Chief of Health Policy, Management and Innovation (www.HMPI.Org), and Senior Associate Editor of Health Services Research.
Prior to coming to Stanford, Dr. Schulman served as a Professor of Medicine at Duke University, directed the Health Sector Management Program at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business for a dozen years, created and directed the Duke University Master’s of Management in Clinical Informatics Program, and served as a Visiting Professor and Visiting Scholar at Harvard Business School.
He is a co-founder of Bivarus (exit January, 2018), co-founder and Managing Member of Faculty Connection, LLC., and is a Board Member of Grid Therapeutics.
He is an elected member of ASCI and AAP.
He is a graduate of Dartmouth College, the New York University School of Medicine, and The Wharton Health Care Management Program.

BioDr. Piya Sorcar is the founder and CEO of TeachAids, an Adjunct Affiliate at Stanford’s School of Medicine, a Faculty Fellow at the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, and an Adjunct Lecturer at the Graduate School of Education. She leads a team of world experts in medicine, public health, and education to address some of the most pressing public health challenges.
TeachAids is an award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit social venture that creates breakthrough software addressing numerous persistent problems in health education around the world, including HIV/AIDS, concussion, and COVID-19. A pioneer in the development of infectious disease education, TeachAids HIV education software is used in 82 countries. In partnership with the US Olympic Committee’s National Governing Bodies, TeachAids has launched the CrashCourse concussion education product suite, which includes research-based applications available online as a standard video and in virtual reality. CoviDB is their third health education initiative, a community-edited platform organizing resources across a comprehensive set of topics relating to COVID-19 for free public use.
Sorcar received her Ph.D. in Learning Sciences and Technology Design and her M.A. in Education from Stanford University. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.A. in Economics, B.S. in Journalism, and B.S. in Information Systems. She has been an invited speaker at leading universities such as Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Tsinghua, and Yale, and is Vice Chairman of the Education Advisory Council for USA Football. MIT Technology Review named her to its TR35 list of the top 35 innovators in the world under 35 and she was the youngest recipient of Stanford’s Alumni Excellence in Education Award.
