Colette DeJong

A graduate of Brown University and the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Dr. DeJong completed an internal medicine residency, chief residency, and fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at UCSF, as well as a two-year editorial fellowship at JAMA Internal Medicine and a research fellowship at the UCSF Center for Healthcare Value. Dr. DeJong’s research focuses on improving access to effective cardiovascular therapies. She is interested in developing and evaluating novel strategies to improve care delivery, such as cardiovascular combination pills (“polypills”). Dr. DeJong served as the principal investigator of a pilot clinical trial of heart failure polypills at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Prasanth Ganesan

BioPrash Ganesan is a Research Scientist at Stanford Cardiovascular Medicine. His research is focused on developing novel signal processing and machine learning approaches for investigating and personalizing ablation therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation. He was previously a research fellow at the US National Institutes of Health working on conditions such as cervical cancer and Pneumonia using Deep Learning methods. He was recognized in the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2022 list in Healthcare and Science category. He is a co-inventor of patents on novel mapping approaches for atrial fibrillation. He aspires to become a renowned bioengineering scientist developing innovative methods to improve healthcare globally. In his free time he enjoys hiking, playing badminton, and exploring restaurants and food places.

Dr. Ikeno is a Researcher, Cardiovascular Medicine, Stanford University. In this role, he is responsible for pre clinical studies including GLP for medical devices and also regenerative medicines for cardiovascular diseases. Currently, he is devoting himself to the international regulatory project between Japan and the United States, also known as "Harmonization by Doing", whose focus is to collaborate with regulatory agencies such as FDA, PMDA/MHLW, academia and industries for improving the regulatory process in the 2 largest medtech markets. Dr. Ikeno also devoted himself to found Japan biodesign program which is a collaborative program with University of Tokyo, Osaka University, Tohoku University, Japan Federation Medical Device Association, Ministry of Education Japan and Stanford biodesign program. Currently, Dr. Ikeno serves as the Program Director (US) for Japan Biodesign. Dr. Ikeno is co-founder and board member of US-Japan MedTech Frontier which is a non-profit cooperate to make a trans-pacific eco-system of medical device between Japan and USA.
After 9 years clinical practice as an interventional cardiologist and Family Doctor in rural areas of Japan, Dr. Ikeno came to Stanford as a Researcher and completed his Biodesign Certificate Program. Being part of the ecosystem in Silicon Valley, Dr. Ikeno participated in more than 200 medtech projects and 50 GLP studies as well as in the analysis of clinical trials for cardiovascular medicine (BARI2D, FAME, ReOPEN etc). His other academic consortium projects include Peripheral Academic Research Consortium, Global Consensus Working Group of Optical Coherence Tomography, and Japan-US consensus document for the treatment of critical limb ischemia.
Over the last decade, Dr. Ikeno has served as an advisor for medical device industries and currently serves as a chief medical officer of an incubation fund specific for medtech (Medventure Partners, Inc, Tokyo) as a spin-off from Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) that is the largest government and private partnership fund in Japan. He is also serving as a chair of cardiovascular working group of APAN (Asian Pacific Advanced Network) that contributes the remote education, research activities, and tele-health using a specialized internet network. Dr.Ikeno is also serving as consulting faculty/lecturer roles in several universities in Japan including University of Tokyo, Osaka University, Tsukuba University etc. Dr. Ikeno has authored over 70 peer reviewed publications and textbooks and has been invited to lecture at international medical conferences. Dr. Ikeno is a council member of U.S.- Japan Council which is a non-profit organization by Japanese American. He is serving as a mentor for START-X MED which is an accelerating program for Stanford related entrepreneurs in medical fields.

Jonathan N. Myers

BioDr. Myers is a Health Research Scientist at the Palo Alto VA Health Care System; a Clinical Professor at Stanford University (Affiliated), and a Senior Research Career Scientist Award recipient through the VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Program. His research has focused on primary and secondary prevention, and the clinical applications of exercise testing and rehabilitation in patients with cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions. He has a lengthy history of studying the epidemiology of cardiopulmonary exercise test responses, physical activity patterns, and other lifestyle factors and their relation to health outcomes. He manages the Veterans Exercise Testing Study (VETS), an ongoing, prospective evaluation of Veteran subjects referred for exercise testing for clinical reasons, designed to address exercise test, clinical, and lifestyle factors and their association with health outcomes.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, his master's degree from San Diego State University, and his doctorate from the University of Southern California. He has been a board member for many organizations including the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and serves on the editorial board for 9 journals. He is a recipient of the Michael Pollock Established Investigator Award through the AACVPR, a recipient of the Steven N Blair Award for excellence in physical activity research from the AHA Council on Epidemiology and Prevention and is the 2022 recipient of the American College of Sports Medicine Citation Award. He is a fellow of the AACVPR, ACSM, American College of Cardiology, and the AHA, and has authored and co-authored guidelines on exercise testing and rehabilitation for each of these organizations, including the 2021 editions of the ACSM and AACVPR guidelines. -
Vedant Pargaonkar

BioMy long-term research interests involve development of algorithms using computational methods for early detection of coronary pathophysiology including, endothelial dysfunction and microvascular dysfunction (MVD) and/or a myocardial bridge (MB) in patients with angina and no obstructive coronary artery disease (NOCAD) and the identification of novel target therapies for primary prevention and improved prognosis in these patients. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Tremmel in Cardiovascular medicine at Stanford, I have been systematically studying to better understand the underlying pathophysiology of these patients, as well as the optimal use of diagnostic testing and treatment using the angina and no-obstructive CAD Registry at Stanford. In collaboration with other investigators in this field, we have published multiple scientific articles highlighting the limitations of current testing in this population and identification of novel diagnostic tools for early diagnosis and management of patients with angina and no obstructive CAD. My research also focuses on myocardial infarction (MI) in women, particularly spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). I have been involved in the design and execution of the first international collaborative study in SCAD, investigating peripartum vs. non-peripartum SCAD. This is analyzing the largest cohort of patients recruited from multiple US and non-US sites to understand the pathophysiological differences in these patient cohorts.

BioDr. Fabián Sanchis Gomar (M.D., Ph.D.) has published more than 345 manuscripts in international peer-reviewed journals related to several topics, wide-ranging in cardiology, arrhythmias, aging, exercise, and oxidative stress. His most relevant works have been based on the molecular and physiopathological mechanisms implicated in various diseases and identifying potential novel mechanisms and biomarkers associated with those diseases' pathogenesis.
As a dedicated researcher in the field of arrhythmias and sports cardiology, his journey has been driven by a deep-seated passion for unraveling the complexities of the heart, particularly in the context of athletic performance. His fascination with the heart's rhythm and how it adapts to the extreme demands of sports began early in his career as a medical student, where he was captivated by the intricate balance between physical excellence and cardiac health.
Throughout his years in academia and research, Dr. Sanchis-Gomar has been privileged to work at the forefront of sports cardiology, a field that sits at the fascinating intersection of cardiology and sports medicine. His postdoc research focused on the pathophysiology of arrhythmias in elite athletes, shedding light on how intense physical training can alter cardiac function and rhythm. This work laid the foundation for his subsequent research endeavors, which have been dedicated to understanding and preventing sports-related cardiac events.
One of the core objectives of his research has been to develop effective strategies for the early detection and management of arrhythmias in athletes. This pursuit has been academically fulfilling and deeply personal, as it stems from witnessing athletes face unexpected cardiac challenges. Another aspect of his career that he holds in high regard is his role in educating and mentoring the next generation of researchers. He firmly believes that the future of the field hinges on the enthusiastic and informed involvement of young professionals, and he takes great pride in sharing his knowledge and experiences with them.
Community engagement has also been a key component of his career. He has actively participated in numerous outreach programs to raise awareness about athlete heart health. These programs disseminate information and build a community of athletes, coaches, trainers, and healthcare professionals who are informed, vigilant, and proactive about cardiac health in sports.
As he looks to the future, he is excited by the endless possibilities in sports cardiology. The rapid advancements in technology and medicine promise new avenues for research and clinical application. He aims to continue contributing to this dynamic field by advancing scientific understanding and ensuring that this knowledge translates into better care and safer sports participation for athletes at all levels. -
