Wendy Sue Lewis Swanson

BioDr. Wendy Sue Swanson is a pediatrician, health communicator, and expert in digital health. She has dedicated her career to expanding the practice of general pediatrics in part by using public communication tools and digital software to improve education, connection between patients and care teams, and public health. Dr. Swanson started the first physician-authored blog for a major US hospital in 2009 working to combat misinformation in the news and online for families. She was a pioneer in using social media in medicine with a focus on increasing trust in the science and safety of immunizations. For more than a decade, she generated worldwide interest in pediatric public health topics, her team's digital health innovation projects, and prevention solutions by leveraging her blog, social channels, and media opportunities.
As Chief Medical Officer for a start-up, Dr. Swanson currently leads efforts to foster conversations around the importance of early and consistent inclusion of common allergens in babies' diets. In 2020 she designed an end-to-end, virtual clinical trial enrolling 1500 infants across the US focused on early infant feeding, leveraging EMR-based electronic and online parent chat rooms for novel participant recruitment.
As a pediatrician, author, and a prominent advocate of evidence-based medicine and prevention, Dr. Swanson speaks internationally on prevention, digital health, and health innovation. She has been a leading voice in health care and media, working to revolutionize health communications by using social and digital media to bridge the gap between parents and doctors.
Prior to her work at Stanford, Dr Swanson practiced primary care pediatrics for 12 years, worked for the NBC Seattle-affiliate, KING5 News, as a weekly on-air TV medical contributor, and wrote the Seattle Mama Doc blog for Seattle Children’s Hospital for 10 years. Swanson established and founded the Digital Health department in 2013 for the hospital and was later named Chief of Digital Innovation. In that role, Swanson led a team in innovation by testing and creating new digital tools (software, voice technology, social media, outside innovation pilots) and innovation projects across Seattle Children's and the US.
She is an official spokesperson for The American Academy of Pediatrics and a frequent contributor to national TV, radio, and online news outlets. Her first book, Mama Doc Medicine: Finding Calm and Confidence in Parenting, Child Health, and Work-Life Balance was published by the American Academy of Pediatrics in March, 2014 and is a Gold Award Recipient of the Mom’s Choice Awards.
Swanson was born and raised in Minnesota. An honors graduate in Psychology from Kenyon College, Dr. Swanson earned an MD and MBE (Master's in Bioethics) at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School Of Medicine and completed her residency at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Dr. Swanson spent 2 years teaching middle school, bilingual, science & math in Oakland, California through Teach For America before beginning her career in medicine.
Career Focus: building solutions in prevention, health translation/education, and innovation via the design and development of novel and digital tools that 1) empower patients 2) help healthcare providers perform their jobs at the highest level 3) strengthen communication between these two groups and 4) prevent disease. -

Meg Tabaka, MD, MPH

BioDr. Tabaka is a board-certified family medicine physician with a special focus in LGBTQ+ and underserved medicine. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health of Stanford Department of Medicine. In this role, she splits her time between the Stanford Los Altos LGBTQ+ Primary Care Clinic and the MayView Community Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Mountain View, CA.
Dr. Tabaka provides expert, compassionate care personalized to each patient she serves. She is dedicated to meeting the health care needs of all of her patients including all members of the LGBTQ+ community and she welcomes patients of all ages and backgrounds to her practice.
Prior to her medical training, Dr. Tabaka completed her Masters in Public Health at the University of Minnesota. She went to complete medical school at Stanford University and completed residency at the Stanford O’Connor Family Medicine Residency Program in San Jose, CA. -

I also conduct research on ethical issues in clinical care and research for patients and families with autism and other developmental and cognitive disabilities.

Suzanne Tamang
Assistant Professor of Medicine (Immunology and Rheumatology)
BioDr. Suzanne Tamang an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Immunology and Rheumatology and a Faculty Fellow at the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences. She is also the Computation Systems Evaluation Lead at the VA Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention's Program Evaluation Resource Center. Dr. Tamang uses her training in biology, computer science, health services research and biomedical informatics to work with interdisciplinary teams of experts on population health problems of public interest. Integral to her research, is the analysis of large and complex population-based datasets, using techniques from natural language processing, machine learning and deep learning. Her expertise spans US and Danish population-based registries, Electronic Medical Records from various vendors, administrative healthcare claims and other types of observational health and demographic data sources in the US and internationally; also, constructing, populating and applying knowledge-bases for automated reasoning. Dr. Tamang has developed open-source tools for the extraction of health information from unstructured free-text clinical progress notes and licensed machine learning prediction models to Silicon Valley health analytics startups. She is the faculty mentor for the Stanford community working group Stats for Social Good.

Sana Laraib Tehal, MD

BioDr Sana L. Tehal is currently working alongside three professors; Internal Medicine - Anuradha Phadke, MD (Clinical Associate Professor, Medicine); Geriatrics - Silvia Tee, MD (Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine); and Nephrology - Vivek Bhalla, MD (Associate Professor of Medicine and Director, Stanford Hypertension Center). Alongside clinical work, Dr Tehal’s current research interests at Stanford include Hepatitis B screening, remote blood pressure monitoring for improving hypertension, and investigating novel biomarkers for hypertension diagnosis. Dr Tehal is excited to participate in the match this year to start medical residency in 2024, and aspires to obtain a fellowship in community medicine or population health in the future.
Driven by a passion for service and healthcare equity, Dr. Sana L. Tehal, a medical doctor from Malawi, now based in the US, is dedicated to improving access to healthcare for underserved communities globally. Dr Tehal previously completed volunteer internships serving underrepresented populations in Oakland and San Jose at Roots Community Health Care and Bay Area Community Health. Dr Tehal graduated with excellent standing from Dubai Medical College, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and served as a Medical Officer under the Dubai Health Authority, following her graduation. Throughout her career and in recent years, she has persistently worked to serve underprivileged communities in Dubai, Malawi, Cameroon with the United Nations, and now in the US.
Dr Sana L. Tehal has received multiple awards for her research including on “Comparing outcomes of hospitalized patients (in the US) with Diabetic Ketoacidosis in teaching vs nonteaching hospitals from 2016 – 2019”, and multiple national awards in the UAE including for a concept paper around “Improving awareness on Diabetes Early Detection and Prevention in U.A.E”; for a presentation on “The relation between VDR-Fok 1 gene polymorphism to Pre-Menstrual Syndrome in adolescent females”; and on “Thyroid Cancer in Dubai: A Seven-Years Single Center Experience”.
In her spare time, Dr Tehal is a keen artist, and uses art as means to relax and unwind, her favorite medium is acrylic on canvas and loves painting still life and landscapes. -

Valerie Teng

BioDr. Valerie Teng is a board certified family physician with special interests in preventative medicine and women's health. Her experiences in caring for patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, have fueled her desire to partner with patients to enter healthier lifestyles. She is also passionate about providing comprehensive care to patients of all ages, including newborns and teens.
During her residency training, Dr. Teng explored many opportunities in medical education through the O’Connor-Stanford Leaders in Education Residency (OSLER) program. She is delighted to continue in medical education as a part of the faculty at Stanford Family Medicine. -
Jeffrey Teuteberg

BioHe is currently a Professor of Medicine at Stanford where he serves as the Section Chief of Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support. He sees patients both in the clinic and in the hospital who have advanced heart failure or who have received cardiac transplantation or mechanical circulatory support.
His research interests are in clinical outcomes in patients after transplant and mechanical support as well as novel approaches to immunosuppression. He has participated in many single-center and multi-institutional research studies and has published widely in the fields of transplant and mechanical support. He served as President of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation in 2018. -
Winifred Teuteberg

BioDr. Teuteberg completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago and a Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She joined the faculty at Stanford in 2017 and currently sees patients as a part of the inpatient palliative care consult team at Stanford Healthcare.
She has been the clinical director or Stanford Medicine's implementation of the Ariadne Labs' Serious Illness Care Program since its inception in 2018. Her interests include communication skills training, leveraging predictive algorithms to identify patients who would most benefit from serious illness conversations, how to empower non-physician clinical team members to participate in this work, and best practice for EHR builds related to advance care planning. -

Dr. Tezcan is a medical oncologist and hematologist with over three decades of diverse experience in cancer management and research.
He is leading the development of Lexent Bio's liquid biopsy technology, first in response monitoring, overseeing scientific and clinical development of the technology. With over three decades of direct patient care and clinical trial experience as a principal investigator and director both in academia and private practice, he has firsthand understanding of unmet clinical needs of physicians and patients, and broad experience in clinical trial design and implementation.
He established the CA.RE.foundation, a cancer research foundation dedicated to enabling clinical trial execution across community oncology sites throughout the Northwest US. He’s independently built multiple software tools to help oncologists in the practical realities of their daily work.
Before Lexent Bio, he has served as Director of Translational Medicine at Genomic Health and as Vice President leading oncology development at Counsyl, integrating science with clinical product development. He is a steering committee member of the ASCO QOPI, a quality care initiative. -

Julie Ngoc Thai, MD, MPH
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Thai is a fellowship-trained specialist in geriatric medicine. She provides care at the Stanford Senior Care Clinic.
She completed her fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. She is board-certified in family medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine .
Dr. Thai earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine at McLaren Flint/Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where she served as chief resident.
She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University.
Dr. Thai has a background in clinical and population health research. She recently received a grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation to study the role of motivational interviewing in smoking cessation.
She contributed to research in rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and ankylosing spondylitis in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Thai was also an endourology research fellow in the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai Health System. Research focused on renal stone disease, clinical markers and outcomes, and testing and development of new technologies.
She has co-authored articles on topics such as caregivers’ communication with elders living with late-life disability, palliative care practices in diverse settings, and the social consequences of forgetfulness and Alzheimer’s disease. These articles appeared in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Journal of Palliative Medicine, Journal of Mental Health Aging, and other peer-reviewed journals
Dr. Thai is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, American Academy of Family Physicians, and California Academy of Family Physicians. She is also an inductee of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
She has volunteered with homeless shelters, women’s advocacy groups, Goodwill, the American Red Cross, and AmeriCorps.

Lindsay Thomas, RN, MS, CNS

BioMs. Lindsay Thomas earned her BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley in 2003 and her RN and MS from UCSF in 2006 and 2009 respectively. She completed a Double Master’s in Cardiovascular Nursing and Genomics and is a board certified clinical nurse specialist in critical care nursing. She joined the Stanford Interventional Cardiology Team in 2011 where she has pioneered the advanced practice nursing role in the cath lab and been a leader in the development of the Left Atrial Appendage Closure program. She serves as adjunct faculty for the UCSF graduate nursing program and is the co-chair of the Northern California Chapter of the Preventative Cardiovascular Nurses Association. Lindsay specializes in treating and caring for patients with established coronary artery disease and cardiovascular risk factors; she strives to provide excellent patient care and education to optimize a heart healthy life style to promote wellness with use of medications and invasive procedures when life style alone is not enough to achieve desired results. When not working Lindsay is an outdoor and exercise enthusiast, who enjoys participating in various endurance activities and has completed several triathlons. She also enjoys reading and discussions with her book club, going to the theater, and spending quality time with her friends and family.
