Bard Harstad

BioWith a PhD from Stockholm University, Harstad taught at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, 2004-2012, and then at the University of Oslo 2012-2023, before joining the GSB in 2023. His fields include political economics, environmental economics, and applied theory. Specific research projects include the design of international agreements, trade agreements and climate agreements, supply-side environmental policies, and policies that motivate environmental conservation and reducing deforestation.

David J Hayes
Professor of the Practice, Environmental Social Sciences
BioDavid J. Hayes is a Professor of Practice at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and affiliated faculty at Stanford Law School. He specializes in energy, environmental, and natural resources law and policy. Hayes served in the White House as Special Assistant to President Biden for Climate Policy and was the Senate-confirmed Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the U.S. Department of the Interior for Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. In addition to his public service, Hayes was Executive Director of the State Energy & Environmental Impact Center at the NYU School of Law, where he worked with state attorneys general on climate, environment and clean energy initiatives; Chairman of the Board of the Environmental Law Institute; and partner and Global Chair of the Environment, Land and Resources Department at Latham & Watkins. Hayes is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Stanford Law School.
