Mariya Mardamshina

BioMariya Mardamshina, MD, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Bioengineering, working in Prof. Emma Lundberg's lab. She earned her medical degree from Semey State Medical University and completed her PhD at Tel Aviv University, where her research focused on spatial inter- and intratumoral heterogeneity in breast cancer using mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Currently, her work in the Lundberg lab centers on deciphering cell-to-cell proteomic variability within a spatial framework. Her research involves developing integrated pipelines that combine automated multiplexed staining, high-resolution microscopy, artificial intelligence, and ultra-high sensitivity mass spectrometry to achieve comprehensive proteomic analyses.

Otavio J. Marques

Riccardo Marrocchio
Postdoctoral Scholar, Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
BioRiccardo Marrocchio received his BSc in Physics from the Sapienza University of Rome and his MSc in Physics from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. During his master, he had the opportunity to study and develop analytical and computational techniques to build mathematical models of complex biological systems, in particular of neuronal networks and the hearing system. He then joined the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research as a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Southampton. During his Ph.D., he worked on the development of a model of active cochlear micromechanics. After his PhD he continued at the University of Southampton joining the DigiTwin project as a Research Fellow, to work on the generalization of the biological feedback system of the cochlea to the design of control systems. To pursue his interests in hearing research, he joined Dr. Ó Maoiléidigh Lab, where he is working on stochastic fluctuations in hair bundles.

Jeremy Martin
Postdoctoral Scholar, Political Science
BioJeremy T. Martin is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Political Science and affiliate researcher in the Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society at Stanford University. His research examines the politics of philanthropic organizations and their involvement in K-12 public education, with a particular focus on foundations that are created by Black people. More broadly, his work investigates how elite and non-state actors shape public policy.
Jeremy’s postdoctoral research project is a national, multi-year, multi-method study examining how foundations are responding to federal actions and political pressures. The project explores if and how philanthropic strategies and priorities are shifting—and the implications of these changes for receiving communities and for the role of foundations in a democratic society. His postdoctoral research is supported by grants from the Walter & Elise Haas Fund, the Stuart Foundation, and the Heising-Simons Foundation.
Jeremy’s work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Du Bois Review, Philanthropy & Education, Urban Review, and others. He is the recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Research Paper Award from the American Educational Research Association’s Philanthropy & Education SIG and the Emerging Scholars Fellowship from Stanford Impact Labs.
Prior to joining Stanford, Jeremy was a Eugene Cota-Robles Doctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley. His dissertation research on Black foundations is organized around three core questions: (1) Why and how were Black foundations created? (2) What political ideological frameworks do foundations adopt? (3) And how do those ideologies shape grantmaking behavior? His dissertation represents the first national empirical study of Black philanthropic foundations in the United States.
He holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.A. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. -
Ivan Martinovic
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioIvan Martinović is a postdoctoral researcher and Fulbright Scholar in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he works under the supervision of Prof. Ehsan Adeli. His research focuses on biomedical engineering, with particular emphasis on the application of artificial intelligence in clinical practice. He completed his PhD research on the topic of "Application of Artificial Intelligence for Automatic Analysis of Fluoroscopic X-ray Images" under the supervision of Prof. Ervin Sejdić at the University of Toronto. During his PhD studies, he collaborated with the University of Pittsburgh and was selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology as one of 50 PhD candidates from across Europe to conduct research at Aarhus University in Denmark.
He is the author of 18 scientific publications, and serves as a collaborator with the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts on the development of the Montenegrin Lexicon of Healthcare. He is additionally engaged as a reviewer for several leading international scientific journals and conferences, and has participated in more than 35 international and national scientific, educational, and innovation projects. He is a member of the ITU Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health.
In addition to his research activities, he is actively engaged in science promotion and STEM education. He serves as CEO of epiSTEMe Hub and as Head of the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the PRONA Foundation. He is also a member of the Montenegro Makers Foundation team, which launched Montenegro’s first robotics league for elementary school students. He developed the first smart city concept for his hometown of Cetinje and collaborates with the Government of Montenegro on developing the country’s first artificial intelligence training program for civil servants. -
Alessandra Massa, PhD

Alessandra earned her PhD in Gastronomy Sciences from the Basque Culinary Centre (Mondragon University), where her research explores filamentous fungi as an innovative platform for food development — with applications spanning the food industry and restaurant contexts. She has worked with food-tech startups such as Esencia Foods and NoMy Japan to develop mycelium-based products and alternative proteins, and has collaborated with Michelin-starred restaurants including Azurmendi, Culler de Pau, and Mugaritz.As a Postdoctoral Researcher at Hill-Maini Lab, Alessandra works at the crossroads of bioengineering and gastronomy, using Neurospora intermedia as a tool to transform food waste into, nutritious and delicious foods. Her work sits at the intersection of science, industry, and gastronomy — driven by a deep passion for finding solutions to real-world food challenges. Just as fungi spread through their mycelium, Alessandra is on a mission to spread gastronomy across disciplines around the campus! -
Rory Vu Mather

BioI'm a future physician-scientist working at the intersection of statistics, machine learning, and neural signal processing. As part of the Harvard/MIT MD-PhD Program, I recently completed my PhD in Medical Engineering & Medical Physics (MEMP) through the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) Program.
Currently I'm a postdoctoral fellow in pediatric anesthesiology with Dr. Jennifer Rabbitts and Dr. Cornelius Groenewald at Stanford, where I apply causal inference methods to large-scale electronic health record data to estimate how intraoperative decisions shape long-term postoperative pain and opioid outcomes in children.
I'm also interested in medical education and administration, particularly supporting minority populations such as LGBTQIA+ and Vietnamese communities. Outside of science, I bring a background in graphic design, marketing, and brand development for technology companies, universities, and non-profits. -
Brittany Elizabeth Matheson, PhD
Clinical Associate Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioBrittany Matheson, PhD, is a clinical associate professor and licensed clinical psychologist in the Eating Disorders Clinic. She completed her undergraduate degree at Duke University, doctorate from the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego, and APA clinical internship at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford (LPCH)/Children’s Health Council. Dr. Matheson is a certified family-based treatment (FBT) therapist and consultant. She is also the director of the Stanford Eating Disorder Research Program Data Coordination Center and collaborates with colleagues on NIH-funded randomized clinical trials. Dr. Matheson's research interests include examining the psychosocial, neurocognitive, and familial factors related to disordered eating and excess weight gain in youth. She is interested in the development and implementation of evidence-based treatments for youth with disordered eating as well as better understanding factors that influence pediatric bariatric surgery outcomes. Dr. Matheson has specialized research and clinical expertise in the interplay among obesity, disordered eating, and autism spectrum disorder and is the director of psychological services for the LPCH adolescent metabolic and bariatric surgery program. She conducts comprehensive evaluations and provides evidence-based treatments for individuals across the age-spectrum with eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, and other specified feeding and eating disorders. Her recent research focuses on reducing access to care barriers by digitizing evidence-based treatments and utilizing technology to enhance treatment outcomes.

Alejandro Matia

BioAlejandro Matía is a CZ Biohub Collaborative Postdoctoral Fellow, working jointly with the Huttenhain lab at Stanford and the Arias group at the CZ Biohub San Francisco. The main focus of his research is to explore the mechanisms underlying viral neurotropism. Alejandro obtained his PhD research at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), employing multi-omic technologies such as CRISPR genetic screens and single cell transcriptomics in Poxvirus infections.

Eric Mayer

BioEnding catastrophic wildfires by making biochar.
Eric Mayer earned a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University (2020), where he studied fluid mechanics and published research parameterizing lee-wave drag for ocean circulation models, tangentially improving global climate simulations.
Graduating in the early months of the pandemic and eager to act on the implications of his research, Eric went looking for a more immediate way to effect the climate crisis. Upon learning of biochar’s potential for rapidly-scalable carbon sequestration and the simple technologies already developed for on-site biochar production, Eric founded the biochar-as-a-service company Napachar. Today, you can find Napachar in the vineyards and forests of Napa and Sonoma, California, diverting pulled vines and forestry slash from burn piles to bake in flame-cap biochar kilns, returning "waste" carbon to the soil.
Beginning in the spring of 2026, Eric returned to Stanford in a postdoctoral position with the Woods Institute for the Environment and the Doerr School of Sustainability Accelerator, with the mission of ending catastrophic wildfire in fire-adapted forests by making biochar. -
Devin Malloy McCauley

BioDevin McCauley earned his PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University in 2021, where his research applied intensive longitudinal methods and time-varying effect modeling to investigate family, school, and peer influences on adolescent mental health and well-being. A second focus of his research applies a developmental framework in study of adolescent e-cigarette use. He is particularly interested in identifying sociodemographic (e.g., race/ethnicity, sexual identity) disparities in risk factors for e-cigarette use. His long-term goal is to inform, develop, and evaluate family and school-based prevention programs which support healthy adolescent development and address health disparities related to e-cigarette use.

Charles McGrath
Postdoctoral Scholar, Radiological Sciences Laboratory
BioCharles McGrath is a postdoctoral scholar at the Radiological Sciences Laboratory (RSL) at Stanford University, working with Dr. Daniel Ennis on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. His research focuses on flow imaging, particularly 4D flow MRI and the quantification of complex hemodynamics and on building open, reproducible simulation tools that support methods development across the cardiovascular MR community.
He earned his Dr.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from ETH Zurich in 2024, advised by Prof. Sebastian Kozerke, with a thesis on simulation and optimal sequence design for lower-field cardiovascular MRI. During his doctoral work, he developed referenceless 4D flow MRI techniques using radial balanced SSFP at lower field strengths and contributed to widely used open-source tools for cardiovascular MR simulation (CMRsim) and sequence design (CMRseq). He is an active advocate for open science in the MR community and continues to develop and maintain these tools as part of his research practice. He previously received an M.Sc. with distinction in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Physics) jointly from ETH Zurich, and a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. -
Alexandria McPherson

BioAlexandria (Xan) McPherson is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University. Xan completed her PhD in Applied Physics at the University of Washington, I-LABS with Dr. Samu Taulu as her advisor. There, she developed improvements to the methodology and instrumentation for on-scalp MEG systems, such as OPM-MEG, with the goal of implementing reliable and robust methods for OPM data collection and processing. During her postdoc, she is continuing her work on OPM-MEG systems with Dr. Laura Gwilliams to further the study of speech comprehension.
