Yan Chang

Grad WIM Fellow, Writing in the MajorBioYan Chang is a Ph.D. student in modern and contemporary East Asian literatures, cultures, and media. His research interests currently center on trans-linguality, trans-culture, and trans-nationality in post-Cold War Japanophone literature. His academic concerns also include visuality and modernity of modern Japanese literature in the Taisho period as well as Shanghai urbanization and the concomitant media representations in the 1990s. Before joining Stanford, Yan received a joint B.A. in Economics and Japanese from Shanghai International Studies University, an M.A. in Japanese Culture Studies from Nagoya University, and an M.A. in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities.

During autumn and winter quarters I generally concentrate on providing mock interviews with students who have medical school interview invitations.
During late winter and spring quarters I am available to discuss the application process and review application materials.
Please note that I do not do general advising nor frosh/soph pre-med advising.
My background includes ten years as the Asst. Director of Admissions of Stanford Medical School, seventeen years as a pre-med advisor in Stanford UAR, and seventeen years as an independent pre-med advising consultant. -

Here's the thing--I work in SIS to support the ITALIC and SLE programs. My work falls under administrative operations--a catch-all that covers everything from student course registration each quarter, coordinating charter busses for field trips around the Bay Area, ordering materials and supplies, verifying financial transactions, designing minor collateral materials and posters, events planning, updating web content. It is an a amazing job and the people I get to work with are brilliant and fascinating individuals. -
