Deborah Aarhus

Bio

Deborah Aarhus, EdD, MS, is the Administrative Director for the Vera Moulton Wall Center for Pulmonary Vascular Disease at Stanford, within the School of Medicine (through the Cardiovascular Institute). She oversees the business administration, operations, and management of the $48M endowment, linking together more than 100 top faculty, clinicians, researchers, students, and staff, from 13 different campus locations. Dr. Aarhus' work includes administration, community building, strategic planning (10-year plan), project and financial management, budgeting, event planning (symposiums, lectures, retreats, annual Race Against PH), grant writing, technology oversight, marketing, mentoring/coaching, and acting as an SME for organizational planning (policies, procedures, compliance).

Dr. Aarhus began at Stanford in December, 2017, and brings over 20 years experience in educational administration. She has taught extensively, both internationally and domestically (including AP, International Baccalaureate, undergraduate/graduate courses) and worked as an associate professor (Concordia University Chicago, Natural Sciences; consulting with the Center for Global Outreach and College of Education). Her professional repertoire includes expertise in consulting (curriculum development, strategic planning), data collection/analysis, and entrepreneurial leadership (founding Head of School- China; California). In addition to teaching in Hawaii for 4 years (at Punahou School), Dr. Aarhus has traveled to over 40 countries, volunteering in 12 and residing in 5 (including Zimbabwe, UK, South Korea, Italy, China). She is a strong believer in service to others and has worked diligently with faculty and student groups all around the world, creating opportunities for growth and professional development. Dr. Aarhus served as a US Peace Corps volunteer and leader in Zimbabwe, from 1995-1999.
