Current Research and Scholarly Interests

Johannes Besold is a visiting PhD candidate in the Fendorf Lab within the Earth System Science Department at Stanford University. In his PhD project, Johannes studies the influence of thioarsenic species on arsenic complexation by natural organic matter. To expand our understanding of arsenic mobility in sulfidic, organic rich systems, he uses X-ray absorption spectroscopy in combination with mass spectroscopic methods to identify the speciation of arsenic, iron, sulfur and carbon in the environment.
