Bio


Kyle joined the Office of Community Engagement in January 2023 after working as the Director of the Office of STEM Outreach since 2019. He began working in science outreach in 2005 as the Associate Director of the NSF-funded Stanford Center for Probing the Nanoscale where he developed the Summer Institute for Middle School Teachers. He has worked in an array of units during his time at Stanford, including the Office of Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE), the Vice Provost and Dean or Research (VPDoR), and the Office of External Relations.

From 2008-2017 Kyle was the Director of Precollege Programs at Oregon State University where he oversaw science outreach programs ranging from teacher professional development, to after-school clubs, to undergraduate online-mentoring of K-12 students. He has extensive experience supporting faculty in developing outreach and broader impacts plans for grants.

Kyle did his undergraduate work at the University of California, Santa Cruz, received his Master's degree from California State University, Sonoma, and his PhD from Yale University. In addition to science outreach, he has worked in the biotech industry and taught college courses ranging from organic chemistry to active-learning pedagogy.
