Current Research and Scholarly Interests

QI project: I created a document and a visual guide that nurses used to document nipple pain and trauma on every eligible mother.
This is a one time assessment, done along with their normal assessment upon transfer of the mother from L&D to the Mother Baby Unit (usually within 4 hours after delivery). Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined: gestational age > or = 37 completed weeks, no medical indications for supplementation, no separation of mom from baby before transfer to MBU, mother stated intention to exclusively breastfeed prior to delivery.
Before doing the education piece, we collected baseline data for 3 months.
The next three months, we disseminated the tutorial either by me personally presenting at the Labor and Delivery nurses' skills fair or running a recording of my presentation. We also encouraged L&D nurses to ask for additional help from LLC’s.
Then we started collecting post-intervention data. So far we have a decrease from 27% to 17%.
