Clinical Assistant Professor, Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery)
BioDr. Jacquelyn Callander is a fellowship-trained rhinologist and endoscopic skull base surgeon at Stanford Health Care. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, Division of Rhinology & Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Callander provides comprehensive care for patients with disorders of the nose, sinuses, and skull base. She treats chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps, chronic rhinitis, nasal obstruction, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and cancerous and noncancerous sinonasal and skull base tumors. Dr. Callander offers a range of medical and surgical treatment options. For conditions involving the skull base or orbit (eye socket), she works closely with colleagues in neurosurgery and ophthalmology to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
Dr. Callander takes a thoughtful, individualized approach to care, with an emphasis on clear communication and shared decision-making. She strives to help patients understand their condition and select a treatment plan that reflects their symptoms, priorities, and long-term health.
Dr. Callander’s research focuses on developing biomarkers to better characterize inflammatory subtypes of chronic rhinosinusitis to personalize treatments. She also studies the genomic changes that drive sinonasal tumors and strategies for improving outcomes in endoscopic sinus and skull base surgeries. Dr. Callander’s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at national and international scientific meetings. She is also dedicated to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and contributing to national educational resources for future otolaryngologists.
Dr. Callander is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), the American Rhinologic Society (ARS), and the North American Skull Base Society. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy lab is developing innovative gene and stem cell therapies for genetic diseases, with a focus on gene therapy and regenerative medicine.
We have created novel methods for inserting therapeutic genes into the chromosomes at specific places by using homologous recombination and recombinase enzymes.
We are working on 3 forms of muscular dystrophy.
We created induced pluripotent stem cells from patient fibroblasts, added therapeutic genes, differentiated, and engrafted the cells. -
