Bio

Quinn Paulsen is an MD student at the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) and a research affiliate in Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he works within the Byers Eye Institute at the intersection of clinical ophthalmology and artificial intelligence.

Working under the mentorship of Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Assistant Professor Chase A. Ludwig, MD, MS, Quinn's research applies machine learning to clinical and imaging data, with the goal of developing tools that can help predict disease risk and guide earlier, more targeted intervention.

Quinn graduated with distinction from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology. His undergraduate research spanned the labs of Professor Jue D. Wang (Department of Bacteriology), Associate Professor Daniel Amador-Noguez (Department of Bacteriology), and Professor Jean-Michel Ané (Departments of Bacteriology and Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences), as well as a collaboration with Professor Suckjoon Jun in the Department of Physics at the University of California, San Diego. This work in molecular biology, bacterial genetics, and physiology now shapes his approach to clinical ophthalmology.

Quinn plans to pursue a career in ophthalmology, building experience in the field as he progresses through medical training.
