Yanxu Long is a visiting postdoctoral scholar with NatCap at Stanford University and a postdoctoral associate with NatCap TEEMs in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Applied Economics. He is an environmental economist studying relationships between people and nature through the lens of forests. His research spans environmental and development economics, ecosystem services, and natural capital accounting. Using applied econometrics, spatial data, and interdisciplinary methods, he examines economic effects of environmental policies and environmental consequences of economic development. His current work includes ecosystem-service valuation of wildfire fuel-reduction treatments, techno-economic analysis of biochar production, and measurement of gross ecosystem product across countries. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota in 2025.
