BioSophie Liao is Founder and Managing Partner of Goodwill Capital (formerly Republic Ventures). By age 21, she had traveled to every continent and produced television programs, including work with the Cameron Pace Group on its U.S.–China joint venture, experiences that sparked a lifelong fascination with human behavior and the forces that shape societies.
Over the past decade, she has launched four venture funds and invested in entrepreneurs building at the intersection of technology, finance, and artificial intelligence. Having built her career across Asia and the United States, Sophie is fascinated by how technology, capital, and culture shape long-term societal change.
She is a lifelong student of people, markets, and human progress. -

Postdoctoral Scholar, Business
BioI am a postdoctoral researcher at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where I work with Michele Gelfand on cross-cultural research examining trust, cooperation, and social norms. I received my PhD in Social Psychology from Beijing Normal University and previously held a postdoctoral position at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. My research investigates how cultural contexts shape trust and cooperative behavior across societies. I use methods such as cross-country diary studies, longitudinal designs, and large-scale surveys to examine cultural dynamics at both individual and societal levels.
