Jonas Paul Schoene
Postdoctoral Scholar, Sociology
BioJonas is a computational social psychologist and a postdoctoral fellow at the Polarization and Social Change Lab. He completed his PhD at the University of Oxford, under the supervision of Prof. Brian Parkinson and Prof. Amit Goldenberg of Harvard Business School. Jonas’s research focuses on how technology, such as social media and emerging large language models, can change individual and collective emotions for better or for worse. In one line of his work, he examines how these technologies influence the expression and sharing of emotions and their subsequent impact on political behavior. In another, he explores how these technological advancements can be utilized to enhance well-being. Beyond academia, Jonas is passionate about soccer and has been a goalkeeper since he was 8 years old. He tries to foster a community among students and locals through sports.

Signe Svallfors
Postdoctoral Scholar, Sociology
BioDr. Signe Svallfors is a Wallenberg postdoctoral scholar with the Department of Sociology and a Global Health Postdoctoral Affiliate with the Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH) at Stanford University.
Signe’s research concerns the impact of armed conflict and other crises on demographic and health dynamics, particularly in Latin America. Signe has studied topics such as reproductive autonomy, access to healthcare, pregnancy outcomes, family planning, gender norms, sexual and gender minority rights, and gender-based violence, drawing on a combination of nationally representative surveys, spatiotemporal data on violence, and original expert interviews.
Prior to joining Stanford, Signe was a postdoctoral scholar with the Global and Sexual Health research group at the Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institute in Sweden, and a guest researcher at the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Signe holds a PhD in Sociological Demography from the Department of Sociology, Stockholm University in Sweden. -
Chagai Weiss
Postdoctoral Scholar, Sociology
BioChagai M. Weiss is a postdoctoral fellow at the Conflict and Polarization Lab at Stanford University. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in August 2022 after spending two years as a Middle East Initiative predoctoral fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. Chagai's core interest is in examining how institutions and the people within them shape intergroup relations in divided societies. He is also working on several projects examining the effects of scalable interventions for prejudice reduction, the electoral effects of conflict, the institutional origins of partisan polarization, and experimental methods. His research has been published or is forthcoming in Cambridge University Press, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, and other journals.
