Vanessa Kennedy

BioDr. Kennedy is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of myeloid malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and myelofibrosis (MF). She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy, at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kennedy's research focuses on the use of clinical informatics and bioinformatics in understanding cancer biology and improving patient outcomes. She is also actively involved in interventional clinical trials. Her work has been supported by grant funding from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the Chan-Zuckerberg Foundation. -

BioPaige has an undergraduate degree in Nutrition from Cal Poly, SLO and completed her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Western University of Health Sciences in Southern California before moving to the bay area in November 2016 to join the Stanford Bone Marrow Transplant & Cancer Cell Therapy team. She believes in providing quality care with compassion, taking time to listen to patients and families and helping them navigate complex medical situations and decisions. She has lead the project for APP involvement in Bone Marrow Harvests and serves on the planning committee for a local APP Oncology conference. Her area of clinical practice is bone marrow transplantation and cancer cell therapy.

Emily C. Liang, MD
Assistant Professor-Univ Med Line, Medicine - Blood & Marrow Transplantation
BioDr. Liang is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy. She cares for patients with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders receiving cellular therapies. She graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Human Biology and earned her MD from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She completed internal medicine residency at Stanford University and hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
Dr. Liang's research integrates clinical investigation, statistical modeling, and translational science to characterize, predict, and mitigate CAR T-cell therapy-associated toxicities and advance cellular therapies for multiple myeloma. Her work has been published in Blood, Blood Advances, Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, and Bone Marrow Transplantation and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Conquer Cancer, and Swim Across America. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsRecent clinical studies, by us and others, have demonstrated that genetically engineered T cells can eradicate cancers resistant to all other therapies. We are identifying new targets for these therapeutics, exploring pathways of resistance to current cell therapies and creating next generation platforms to overcome therapeutic resistance. We have discovered novel insights into the biology of human T cell exhaustion and developed approaches to prevent and reverse this phenomenon.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsResearch focus in T cell immunotherapy and T cell immune monitoring using high-throughput sequencing and genomic approaches, with an emphasis on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the treatment of graft-versus-host disease and immune tolerance induction.
