Katherine Ferrara
Professor of Radiology (Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford)
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy focus is image-guided drug and gene delivery and I am engaged in the design of imaging devices, molecularly-targeted imaging probes and engineered delivery vehicles, drawing upon my education in biology and imaging physics and more than 20 years of experience with the synthesis and labeling of therapeutic particles. My laboratory has unique resources for and substantial experience in synthetic chemistry and ultrasound, CT, MR and PET imaging.

BioInterested in PET imaging and reconstruction for early frame Amyloid studies and using DL&AI to synthesize Gadolinium contrast brain images without administering/requiring contrast material. Previous/ongoing projects include Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) hardware design/optimizing image acquisition, Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) sniffer coil design and implementation that acquires SPIO and baseline background signals simultaneously, reducing conventional scanning time by half and designing/building an Inertial Electrostatic Confinement Fusion Reactor (project: SIEC-K) with an emphasis on electrostatic/plasma breakdown characteristics using Paschen's Law.
