BioThe management of inflammatory bowel disease continues to evolve, with the introduction of biologic and small molecule therapies and new goals of treatment, with an emphasis on healing the bowel. My career goal since my graduation from IBD fellowship in 2012 has been to improve the outcomes and quality of life of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. In line with these goals, my research has focused investigating new noninvasive diagnostic test, finding factors early in the disease course that might predict a more aggressive disease course and need for different therapies, and investigating new promising effective medications with less side effects.

Donghee Kim, MD, PhD

BioI am a physician with specialized training in gastroenterology and hepatology. My research primarily focuses on clinical research of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), chronic liver diseases, and obesity-related gastrointestinal diseases, focusing on a population-based study. In addition, my research has expanded to encompass areas such as cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, and psychiatry. I have extensive experience in large epidemiologic cohort studies as well as clinical trials. This work has resulted in over 250 published papers in prominent journals, including Gastroenterology, Journal of Hepatology, Gut, Hepatology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, serving as the first and corresponding author. These publications have been cited more than 18,000 times.

Nathan Geonwoo Kim, MD, MS

BioDr. Nathan Geonwoo Kim is a board-certified, fellowship-trained transplant hepatologist with Stanford Health Care. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kim specializes in hepatology and liver transplantation (transplant hepatology). He cares for people with severe liver disease, such as cirrhosis, alcohol-associated hepatitis, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. Dr. Kim also provides personalized liver cancer care, which may include targeted therapies or liver transplantation to achieve the best possible outcomes.
With a Master of Science in epidemiology and clinical research, Dr. Kim studies hepatocellular carcinoma and outcomes in chronic liver disease. His research focuses on ways to deliver better, more equitable care to people with liver diseases.
Dr. Kim has published his findings in leading medical journals, including the Journal of Hepatology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Cancer. He has also shared his expertise at national and international conferences, including Digestive Disease Week, The Liver Meeting, and the International Liver Congress.
