Fan Yang
Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and of Bioengineering
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur lab’s mission is to develop therapies for regenerating human tissues lost due to diseases or aging, and to build tissue engineered 3D models for understanding disease progression and informing drug discovery. We invent biomaterials and engineering tools to elucidate and modulate biology, and also use biology to inform materials and engineering design. Our work is highly interdisciplinary, and is driven by unmet clinical needs or key gaps in biology.

Phillip C. Yang, MD
Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine)
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Yang is a physician-scientist whose research interest focuses on clinical translation of the fundamental molecular and cellular processes of myocardial restoration. His research employs novel in vivo multi-modality molecular and cellular imaging technology to translate the basic innovation in cardiovascular pluripotent stem cell biologics. Dr. Yang is currently a PI on the NIH/NHLBI funded CCTRN UM1 grant, which is designed to conduct multi-center clinical trial on novel biological therapy.

Yunzhi Peter Yang

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsYang lab's research interests are in the areas of bio-inspired biomaterials, medical devices, and 3D printing approaches for re-creating a suitable microenvironment for cell growth and tissue regeneration for musculoskeletal disease diagnosis and treatment, including multiple tissue healing such as rotator cuff injury, orthopedic diseases such as osteoporosis and osteonecrosis, and orthopedic traumas such as massive bone and muscle injuries.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsCoronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the United States. Our group is interested in studying both the early and late phases of atherosclerosis so that we can better develop prevention and treatment strategies.

Paul Yock, MD

BioYock began his faculty career as an interventional cardiologist at UC San Francisco and then moved to Stanford in 1994. Yock is known for his work in inventing, developing and testing new devices, including the Rapid Exchange angioplasty and stenting system, which is the primary approach used worldwide. Yock also authored the fundamental patents for intravascular ultrasound imaging, conducted the initial clinical trials and established the Stanford Center for Research in Cardiovascular Interventions as a core laboratory for analysis of intravascular ultrasound clinical studies. He also invented the Smart Needle and is a co-inventor of the strain-reduction patch for wound healing. Yock was founding Co-Chair of the Department of Bioengineering and continues research related to new device technologies. Yock also was the founding director of the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign -dedicated to advanced training in medical technology innovation.

Celina Yong, MD, MBA, MSc
Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine)
BioCelina Yong, MD, MBA, MSc, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI, is an Associate Professor in the Stanford School of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiology at the VA Palo Alto Medical Center. Dr. Yong leads an active health services research program focused on using novel scalable approaches to understand and resolve inequities in cardiovascular care, as well as in the workforce. In her clinical practice, Dr. Yong performs complex coronary and structural procedures and is actively involved in clinical trials of novel device and drug therapies for cardiovascular disease.
Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, Dr. Yong completed an MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and MBA from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. She completed her MD at Stanford, followed by internal medicine residency at University of California, San Francisco and cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at Stanford, including serving as Chief Fellow.
