Lucia Aronica

BioFor over fifteen years, my research has focused on epigenetics - how environmental factors can influence gene activity and health outcomes. Unlike fixed genetics, epigenetic modifications are flexible and can store cellular memories from diet, stress, toxins, etc. This offers exciting potential for personalized health, as epigenetic markers can reveal susceptibility for exposure-driven diseases like obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
I currently lead epigenetic analysis for the DIETFITS study by Dr. Christopher Gardner, the largest trial ever on low carb versus low fat diets for weight loss. My goal is to understand how weight loss alters gene activity through epigenetic changes, and whether these biomarkers can guide personalized diet strategies.
I also teach Nutritional Genomics at Stanford Continuing Studies, Stanford Sports Medicine, and the Stanford Center for Professional Development. As an award-winning science communicator, I use innovative formats like digital drawings to explain complex epigenetics concepts.
Additionally, I serve as an advisor to personal genomics companies, self-tracking technology startups, and investors in precision health research. I am passionate about translating epigenetics into practical lifestyle advice to optimize wellbeing. -
Michael Baiocchi

BioProfessor Baiocchi is a PhD statistician in Stanford University's Epidemiology and Population Health Department. He thinks a lot about behavioral interventions and how to rigorously evaluate if and how they work. Methodologically, his work focuses on creating statistically rigorous methods for causal inference that are transparent and easy to critique. He designed -- and was the principle investigator for -- two large randomized studies of interventions to prevent sexual assault in the settlements of Nairobi, Kenya.
Professor Baiocchi is an interventional statistician (i.e., grounded in both the creation and evaluation of interventions). The unifying idea in his research is that he brings rigorous, quantitative approaches to bear upon messy, real-world questions to better people's lives. -

Priya Fielding-Singh

BioI am a Sociologist and Postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the Stanford Prevention Research Center. My research examines health, gender, and social inequality.
My primary research agenda investigates health disparities across class, race, and gender in the United States. I draw on both qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how neighborhoods, schools, and families shape our health behaviors and outcomes. My work has been published in journals such as Social Science & Medicine, Obesity, Sociological Science, and the Journal of Adolescent Health.
I hold a Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University, a M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Bremen, and a B.S. in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. -
Shawna Follis
Instructor, Medicine - Stanford Prevention Research Center
BioShawna Follis, PhD, MS, is an Instructor of Medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center. Previously, she was a Stanford Propel Postdoctoral Scholar from 2021 to 2023 and a NIH T32 Postdoctoral Fellow from 2020 to 2021. Dr. Follis is a social epidemiologist researching race and ethnicity health disparities, aging, and cardiovascular disease prevention. She received her PhD in epidemiology at the University of Arizona and her master’s degree in anthropology from Purdue University. Dr. Follis promotes inclusion of underrepresented communities in scientific research through mentorship, teaching, and diversity committees.
