Clinical Assistant Professor (By courtesy), PediatricsBioDr. Celeste Poe is a licensed clinical psychologist with a certification in perinatal mental health. She completed her residency and fellowship training at the Yale Child Study Center. She received her Ph.D. from Palo Alto University, her master’s degree from Pepperdine University and she is a proud HBCU alumni of Xavier University of Louisiana where she received her bachelor’s degree.
Dr. Poe is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Attending NICU and Perinatal Psychologist at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is the director of the NICU Psychology Program at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital where she provides psychological consultation and psychotherapy to parents requiring hospitalization due to high risk pregnancies and parents of infants hospitalized in the NICU. Dr. Poe’s clinical specialties include perinatal and infant mental health as well as maternal-infant critical care with a focus on child and caregiver trauma, grief, and bereavement. Her research focuses on Black perinatal mental health and mental health equity, infant and parent mental health in medical settings, and intergenerational trauma. Dr. Poe was a Zero to Three Fellow and currently serves as Co-Chair of the National Network of NICU Psychologists. In 2026 she was appointed to the American Psychological Association's committee on Children Youth and families.
Dr. Poe also holds a community faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center where she works on the Grief-Sensitive Healthcare Project which aims to enhance healthcare providers’ capacities to meet the needs of grieving families. -
Renee P Pyle, Ph.D.

BioDr. Pyle is a child psychologist who has worked in clinic, hospital, school, and private practice settings for over 20 years. She is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences where she supervises and teaches the child and adolescent psychiatry fellows. She received her B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Mary Sanders, Ph.D.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Sanders is the Program Director of the Comprehensive Care Unit at Stanford where she teaches and works with inpatients with eating disorders. She has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders for the past 35 years at Stanford. She has written extensively and presented nationally on the subject of the evaluation and treatment of eating disorders and also in the field of child abuse, specifically in the area of Munchausen by proxy.
Dr. Sanders is also involved with an international outreach project in Ghana called Project Okurase. This project involved an annual medical health outreach in the village. The project is also creating a model village which includes the building of a medical clinic, vocational school, and homes for families that take in orphans. The project is also involved with bringing safe water, building compost toilets, and bringing solar energy to the village. -

Nicole Starace
Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences - Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Child Development
BioDr. Nicole Starace received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she worked in the lab of Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the founder of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Her work at Penn sparked her interest in the growing field of Evidence-Based Psychotherapy. She received her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from UCLA, where she trained under Dr. Bruce Chorpita and conducted research in the field of Dissemination and Implementation of Evidence-Based Psychotherapy. Dr. Starace joined the faculty at Stanford in 2015 where she held appointments as a Clinical Instructor and a Clinical Assistant Professor. She continued to champion evidence based practices in her leadership roles and as a clinical supervisor for trainees in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Starace left Stanford in 2022 when she relocated back the East Coast, but she returned to Stanford as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in 2023. Dr. Starace specializes in the treatment of OCD, Anxiety, and Tic Disorders and Parenting for youth with disruptive behavior challenges and anxiety. She works with children, teens, and adults.

Affiliate, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences - Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Child DevelopmentBioI am a medically trained researcher focused academic with a background in developmental psychopathology, psychometrics and big data science. My research takes a life-span perspective and is driven by the urgent need to improve outcomes for people with autism and other neuropsychiatric (NPD) disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions (NDD). My primary research interest has focused on combining cutting-edge psychometric procedures and a big data approach to better understand structure of clinical phenotypes across autism and other NPD and NDD and on using this knowledge to improve existing and develop new clinical assessments that are more effective for screening and diagnosis, tracking the natural and treatment-related symptom progression and for use in genetic and neurobiological studies. In addition to my focus on the development of outcome measures, I have collaborated with leading psychopathology researchers and groups in the United States, Europe and Australia on numerous projects spanning a range of topics including genetics, treatment and employment, with a particular focus on understanding risk and resilience factors underpinning poor mental health outcomes in adolescents and adults. Most recently, through several competitively funded projects, I have led the statistical analyses to uncover the latent structure of social and communication and restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRB) clinical phenotypes across NPD and NDD. These findings have enabled us to (i) start capturing and characterizing a highly variable social functioning phenotype across a range of disorders and understanding mechanisms underpinning this variability, (ii) combine phenotypic and genetic units of analyses to advance our understanding of the genetic architecture of RRB, and (iii) focus on identification and characterization of subgroups of individuals that share distinct symptom profiles and demonstrate clinical utility and neurobiological validity. Importantly, this work has provided key information for developing a programmatic line of research aimed at developing novel, comprehensive assessment protocols that combine parent and clinician reports, objective functioning indicators and incorporate state-of-the-art psychometric, mobile and connected technologies and procedures.
I am a co-director of the recently established Program for Psychometrics and Measurement-Based Care (https://med.stanford.edu/sppmc.html) that aims to bring together world-leading expertise in clinical science, psychometrics, and big data analytics to bridge the gap between the science of measurement development and clinical practice and bring improvements to both clinical care and research. -
Cristiana Vattuone, PhD

BioDr. Vattuone is a clinician and researcher for the Autism and Developmental Disorders Research Program in the Division of Child Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Vattuone's expertise includes clinical and neuropsychological assessment of autism spectrum disorder and associated genetic conditions. Dr. Vattuone received her Ph.D. in Human Development and Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles with specialized training in evidence-based interventions. Dr. Vattuone’s research efforts focus on the early identification, diagnosis, and treatment of infants and toddlers, developmental trajectories, and the role of the family in supporting positive outcomes. Her dedication to research, treatment, and training continues at ADDRP to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families.

Her clinical and research interests include expanding psychiatry support for pediatric palliative care patients. Her academic interests include curriculum development and medical education for trainees and clinicians at all levels. She is a facilitator for both VitalTalk and EPEC (Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care) programs nationally and internationally. Prior to coming to Stanford, she was an assistant professor at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and Northwestern University where she served as program director for the pediatric and perinatal palliative care fellowship tracks, and most recently she was an assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Allison Vreeland

BioDr. Allison Vreeland (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in working with children, teens, and families. Dr. Vreeland received her PhD in Clinical Psychological Science with a minor in Quantitative Studies at Vanderbilt University. She completed her predoctoral clinical internship in Child Psychology at UCSF with specialty training through the Child Trauma Research Program. She completed a research and clinical fellowship in the Immune Behavioral Health Clinic at Stanford University, where she focused her research efforts on examining neurological markers of patients diagnosed with pediatric acute neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS). Clinically, Dr. Vreeland’s program of clinical care is focused on the delivery of evidence-based clinical interventions for individuals with anxiety, OCD, PANS/PANDAS, mood disorders, and behavioral challenges.

Aileen Whyte, PhD

BioDr. Aileen Whyte, a licensed psychologist in California, brings over two decades of specialized expertise to the treatment of eating disorders in young people. Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Whyte actively works on implementing strategies to expand the reach of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, aiming to make these best-practice interventions more accessible to a wider population.
Dr Whyte serves as the Director of the Stanford Outpatient Child & Adolescent Eating Disorders Clinic, where she provides treatment to young people with eating disorders and provides supervision to psychology and psychiatry fellows. Dr Whyte is a certified practitioner and consultant in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for eating disorders. She serves as a study therapist in NIMH-sponsored randomized clinical trials focused on examining FBT and related adaptations.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Whyte has led multiple seminars, workshops, and training sessions dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders. She provides ongoing training and consultation in FBT, reaching diverse audiences, including multidisciplinary clinicians, psychologists, and psychiatrists, within the US and internationally.
Dr. Whyte earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the New School for Social Research in New York. Her research and clinical interests converge on the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders. -
Sharon E. Williams PhD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Williams work focuses primarily on cognitive and emotional recovery of children who have been medically compromised. With improved medical treatment and increased survival rates comes the need to better understand the challenges that patients face following a life threatening illness or injury. Dr. Williams utilizes neuropsychological assessments to understand the cognitive abilities of children who have been diagnosed with cancer, head injuries, genetic disorders and other medical conditions.
