Marimar Contreras Nieves
Clinical Scholar, Medicine - Nephrology
Postdoctoral Scholar, NephrologyBioI am currently in my second year of nephrology fellowship, working on a Masters in clinical research and epidemiology, and also doing postdoctoral research on a U2C-TL1. During my training I have worked on clinical research focused on environmental risk factors and health care barriers that can initiate or accelerate the development and progression of kidney disease. My goal is to reach disadvantaged populations and help reduce the gaps in health that may stem from their vulnerability to determinantal environmental exposures. My projects have included investigating chronic kidney disease of uncertain etiology, with particular interest in California’s Central Valley.

Ali Etemadi
Postdoctoral Scholar, Nephrology
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am a clinician and data scientist focusing on drawing causal inferences from observational data when randomized controlled trials are not feasible. Currently, my work centers on patients with late-stage chronic kidney disease, a rapidly growing population for which evidence is limited due to their frequent exclusion from RCTs. At the moment, I aim to move towards precision medicine approaches to optimize outcomes for these patients.

Parth I Kumar
Postdoctoral Medical Fellow, Nephrology
Fellow in Medicine - Med/NephrologyBioParth Kumar is a fellow in the Stanford University Nephrology Fellowship Program. Dr. Kumar holds a B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and an M.D. with Distinction from UCSF School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at UC Irvine, where he was recognized as the Intern Teacher of the Year in 2022. Dr. Kumar's research interests span health care innovation and translational medicine, such as integrating 3D printing into clinical settings to aid patient education, evaluating novel medical devices. His past work includes the study "Evaluating the use of Radioactive Analogs of Doxorubicin for Quantifying ChemoFilter binding and Whole Body PET/MRI Biodistribution," leading to him being recognized as one of the JVIR Editor's Honorees: Distinguished Laboratory Investigations in 2022.
