Ricardo B Levy
Adjunct Professor, Chemical Engineering
BioRicardo Levy is an executive and entrepreneur whose career spans more than three decades of founding and building successful businesses. Born and raised in South America to a European immigrant family, he completed engineering studies in the United States at Stanford and Princeton before returning to South America to run a family business. In 1969 he sold the business and returned to the United States to complete his Ph.D. at Stanford in the field of catalytic chemistry. In 1974, after a number of years in the petroleum and petrochemical industry, he co-founded his first entrepreneurial venture, Catalytica, a research and development firm serving the chemical, pharmaceutical, and clean energy industries. The firm’s discoveries resulted in over one hundred patents and led to the formation of three companies, one of which became, under Levy’s leadership, the largest supplier to the pharmaceutical industry in North America and was sold to European firm DSM in 2000. He has served on several public and private Boards, is Lead Director of the Board of a private analytics software company, and serves on the Board of Aquarius Energy, Inc. From 2010 to 2016 served on the Advisory Board of the Santa Clara University Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship, a global incubator of social entrepreneurs. He continues to be a mentor for that program. He is a Lecturer at the Stanford University Chemical Engineering Department, where he teaches a course on entrepreneurship, leadership and new venture creation. He is the author of the book “Letters to a Young Entrepreneur: Succeeding in Business Without Losing at Life – A Leader’s Ongoing Journey” published in 2015. Throughout his life, Dr. Levy has pursued a keen interest in spirituality and personal growth and his conviction that a person’s inner beliefs and purpose are deeply linked to business success. He has continually applied his diverse studies to his roles as a business leader, mentor and teacher.

BioSummary:
After beginning my career in supercomputing research during my PhD at Cornell and spending nearly three decades at Intel—including the last decade as VP/GM of AI & Analytics—I have returned to the research and startup ecosystem. Today, as an Adjunct Professor at Stanford, I work with AI founders, Stanford researchers, and corporate boards to help bridge the gap between AI innovation and real-world impact.
Current Academic & Clinical Focus:
As an Adjunct Professor in the School of Engineering and Affiliate Faculty at the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI), I specialize in AI strategy, enterprise governance, and commercial scale. My work centers on Innovation to Impact (I2I) and Trusted AI—bridging the gap between frontier technical research, clinical adoption, and real-world deployment. I collaborate across the School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, and Stanford Health Care as a strategic architect and educator for AI deployment in high-stakes environments.
Enterprise & Open Source Leadership:
Prior to Stanford, I spent nearly three decades at Intel Corporation, serving as Vice President and General Manager of AI & Analytics. In this role, I led global engineering teams across 10+ countries building full-stack AI software platforms powering enterprise-scale infrastructure. A long-time advocate for open science and industry oversight, I previously served on the governing boards of the PyTorch Foundation and Linux Foundation AI & Data alongside leaders from Meta, Google, OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Microsoft.
Scholarship & Academic Background:
I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University in supercomputing research and completed executive education at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. I am a recipient of the ACM ASPLOS Best Paper Award, a former Associate Editor for ACM TOPLAS, and served as the Intel Executive Sponsor for Cornell University while sitting on the funding committee overseeing $20M in parallel computing research at UC Berkeley and UIUC.

A prominent voice on AI strategy, enterprise deployment, and governance, I am a frequent keynote speaker at major global forums—including CES, the World AI Summit, GITEX, and Harvard Business School.
