Ronald D. Watkins
Senior Research Engineer, Rad/Radiological Sciences Laboratory
Current Role at StanfordMy current position is Senior Research Associate in the Radiological Sciences Laboratory and the Molecular Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Radiology at Stanford School of Medicine. I provide hardware, systems, and general technical support for a large group of Faculty members and many students and post docs in the development of advanced medical imaging, metabolic imaging and image-guided interventions. My training background is primarily in RF and electrical engineering and I have spent more than 25 years in the commercial diagnostic imaging industry. Most of the projects I am currently working on involve instrumentation for metabolic imaging using magnetic resonance of hyperpolarized carbon nuclei. I am also involved in the development of Hybrid systems that combine Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance imaging. Other projects I am involved in use focused ultrasound for neuro-stimulation or drug delivery via blood brain barrier. I also provide RF coil design and support for small animal imaging and various research studies. I have ongoing collaborations with many other medical research institutes and Universities around the world. I currently have 45 issued US patents and 100 pear reviewed publications.

Kenneth Weber

BioDr. Weber's research seeks to develop markers of pain and sensorimotor function using machine-learning and advanced brain, spinal cord, and musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Weber aims to use these techniques to better understand the neuropathology of pain and neurological conditions and discover more effective treatments and preventative strategies.

Paul B. Welander
Lead Scientist, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
BioPaul Welander is a Lead Scientist and Head of the Quantum Devices Department in the Technology Innovation Directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Paul’s research interests concern materials for quantum devices, from the study of materials-induced decoherence mechanisms in superconducting quantum bits, to the development of materials platforms that enable novel quantum technologies. He’s a researcher in both the Detector Microfabrication Facility and Nano-X, two new state-of-the-art cleanrooms at SLAC geared toward superconductor quantum device fabrication and rapid nano-prototyping, respectively. Paul also leads experiments at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) to characterize materials used in superconducting quantum devices and correlate those measurements with device performance and quantum decoherence rates. His expertise includes molecular beam epitaxy of metal-oxide heterostructures, superconducting device fabrication, and an array of materials characterization techniques including electron and x-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning probe microscopy. Paul received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and holds Bachelors degrees from both Caltech and Occidental College. Prior to joining SLAC in 2012, he spent five years as a member of the technical staff at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
