Northpond is based in Cambridge, MA; San Francisco, CA; and Bethesda, MD. Dr. Rubin has been involved in investing in and developing over 100 startups, in a broad array of disciplines, including medicine, technology, financial services, and global consumer. Dr. Rubin’s experience spans engineering, medicine, surgery, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. Dr. Rubin also holds academic appointments at Harvard and MIT.

Uta Ruett
Senior Scientist, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
BioUta Ruett is an expert in high-energy x-ray diffraction. Her research is dedicated to developing methods and instrumentation for in situ and operando structural analysis at x-ray user facilities. Her scientific interests cover a wide range of diffraction applications, including solid-state physics, synthesis of new materials, catalysis, and electrochemistry. In recent years, her primary focus has been on the structural analysis of disordered thin films and interfaces.
Uta Ruett received her diploma in Physics from the University of Hamburg, Germany, in 1993, and her Ph.D. in Physics from the same institution in 1996. She began her postdoctoral research at Northern Illinois University before becoming an assistant scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. She then worked at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid-State Physics in Stuttgart, Germany, before joining DESY in Hamburg, Germany, as a staff scientist and later as a Beamline Manager at PETRA III, DESY, Germany. In 2017, Uta Ruett accepted the position of group leader at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), where she oversaw the development and research program of five high-energy x-ray scattering beamlines. In 2024, she joined SLAC as a senior advisor for future projects at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL). -
Perisa Ruhi-Williams, MD

Staff, Surgery - General SurgeryBioDr. Perisa Ruhi-Williams is a board-certified General Surgeon practicing at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Her clinical practice is centered on utilizing robotic-assisted techniques for metabolic/bariatric surgery and hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction.
She graduated as an Echols Scholar with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Virginia. She earned her MD from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and completed her General Surgery residency at the University of California, Irvine. While in residency, she served as the Chief Resident in Quality and Patient Safety at the VA Long Beach Medical Center. She subsequently completed an advanced fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatrics, and Foregut Surgery at Stanford Health Care.
Dr. Ruhi-Williams is passionate about advancing surgical education and the wellness of surgical trainees. In addition to her clinical roles, she serves as the Site Director for the Surgery Core Clerkship at VA Palo Alto and Assistant Site Director for the General Surgery Residency Program at VA Palo Alto. -

Rushdi, PhD, is the director of HAI industry programs—research collaborations and executive education—at Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI), translating cutting-edge research into responsible, deployable solutions for global enterprises. He forges durable bridges between Stanford scholars and industry to advance trustworthy, real-world AI.
Ahmad's own research focuses on uncertainty quantification and statistical signal processing for AI/ML systems. Previously, he held R&D roles at Sandia National Labs, Northrop Grumman, UC Davis, UT Austin, and Cisco. He earned a PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from UC Davis and MS/BS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University.
