Daniel Zhang
Senior Manager for Policy Initiatives, Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI)
BioDaniel Zhang is the senior manager for policy initiatives at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) where he leads the Institute's policy research, outreach, and education initiatives. With the goal of developing evidence-based AI policy recommendations, his research interests lie at the intersection of technology policy, governance, and societal impact, including translational and original research on AI regulation and standards, the geopolitical implication of emerging technology, and the governance of large-scale ML models.
Daniel is also a member of the High-Level Expert Group on AI Ethics at UNESCO, advising the agency on the implementation of its Recommendation on the Ethics of AI. Previously, he was the manager of the AI Index where he lead-authored the 2021 and 2022 annual reports that measure and evaluate the rapid rate of AI advancement.
Before Stanford, he worked on global AI talent flows and security risks at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology and public education policy at the Riley Institute Center for Education and Leadership. Daniel holds a Master's in Security Studies from Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service, where he concentrated on technology policy, and a Bachelor's from Furman University. -
Hao Zhang
Visiting Physicist, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
Visiting Physicist-Experimenta, SLAC National Accelerator LaboratoryBioHao received his B.Sc. degree at Tianjin University in China in 2020 before pursuing his MAS.c degree at the University of Victoria in Canada. He is one of the Quantum BC scholars and the Canada NSERC QC CREATE Scholar. Previously, he worked in RF and microwave engineering and since September 2020, he focused on nonlinear optics and plasmon-enhanced optical trapping. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Los Angeles, supervised by Dr. Sergio Carbajo, and is also a visiting student at SLAC. In his free time, he likes hiking, playing basketball, astronomical observation, and painting.

Marianna Yunjia Zhang
Teaching Asst-Graduate, Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
Teaching Asst-Graduate, Freshman and Sophomore Programs (FSP)BioI'm a developmental cognitive scientist studying how children reason about social categories, social differences, and social disparities. I work on identifying ways of thinking that support social disparities, tracing back their origins in development, and finding ways to disrupt them.

Weiruo Zhang
Research Engineer, Biomedical Data Science
BioDr. Zhang is currently a Research Engineer at the Department of Biomedical Data Science and the Center for Cancer Systems Biology, Stanford School of Medicine. Dr. Zhang obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, both from Stanford University. Her Ph.D. studies focused on developing computational algorithms for metabolomics data analysis, in which she received Young Scientist Award from the Metabolomics Society for her algorithm on metabolic network analysis delineating the effects of genetic mutants and drug treatment on the metabolome. Her postdoctoral studies at the Department of Radiology, Stanford School of Medicine, integrated radiomic data and genomic data that identified a prognostic metabolic regulation biomarker for non-small cell lung cancer. Her current research primarily focuses on developing and implementing novel computational methods to integrate and analyze single-cell multi-omics data, such as single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial proteomics and spatial transcriptomics. She has developed algorithms to solve computational challenges of spatial omics data and to identify mediators for cell-cell interactions associated with metastasis that was featured in Stanford Medicine Magazine. Dr. Zhang has authored and co-authored publications including Nature, Cell, Nature Methods etc. Her research aims at bridging multi-omics, imaging, machine learning, artificial intelligence to better understand biology for cancer progression and immunosuppression.
