BioI am a physician with specialized training in gastroenterology and hepatology. My research primarily focuses on clinical research into metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), chronic liver diseases, and obesity-related gastrointestinal diseases, with a population-based study. In addition, my research has expanded to encompass cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, and psychiatry. I have extensive experience in large epidemiologic cohort studies as well as clinical trials. This work has resulted in over 300 published papers in prominent journals, including Gastroenterology, Journal of Hepatology, Gut, Hepatology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, with the author serving as first or corresponding author. These publications have been cited more than 22000 times with an H-index of 73.

Dr. Kim is the Director of Addiction Treatment Services at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Healthcare System, and a Clinical Assistant Professor (Affiliated) at Stanford University School of Medicine. At the VA Palo Alto, Dr. Kim teaches and supervises medical students, residents and fellows. He is also the President-Elect of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs, and a Councilor-at-Large of the Northern California Psychiatric Society.
