My research lies at the intersection of human-AI interaction, education, and natural language processing. I study the translational and implementation science of AI systems to develop scalable and sustainable education measures.
In May 2026, I received my Bachelor's with Honors in Computer Science, Statistics, and Digital Studies from Grinnell College. Previously, I interned at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute and Columbia University. -
Nabeel Gillani
Assistant Professor of Education
BioNabeel is an Assistant Professor of Education Data Science at the Stanford University Graduate School of Education, where he directs the Plural Connections Group (PCG — https://www.pluralconnections.org/). PCG explores how tools from computation and design might help advance pluralism—an inclusive response to differences in society—in ways that promote educational, economic, and social inclusion. More specifically, it seeks to apply methods from computational social science and human-computer interaction to foster more equitable connections and empathy across segregated spaces like schools, neighborhoods, and digital media environments.
Nabeel received his PhD from the MIT Media Lab. Prior to graduate school, he worked as a Product Manager and member of the analytics team at Khan Academy, where he helped design digital learning experiences. He studied Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Brown University as an undergraduate, and received Masters degrees in Education and Machine Learning at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. -
Joshua Gillard
Postdoctoral Scholar, Cardiovascular Medicine
BioDr. Josh Gillard is a Canadian biomedical data scientist with experience in bioinformatics, machine learning, and immunology. After completing a BSc and a MSc in Experimental Medicine at McGill university, he relocated to the Netherlands for his PhD in bioinformatics at Radboud University in Nijmegen. During his PhD, he gained experience analyzing and interpreting complex immunological data (bulk and single-cell transcriptomics, high-dimensional cytometry, high-throughput proteomics) derived from human observational or intervention studies (vaccination and experimental human infection). This work revealed molecular and cellular correlates of clinically important endpoints such as disease severity, symptom progression, and antibody responses. In 2022, Josh relocated to Stanford to join the Gaudilliere lab to develop and apply multi-omic data integration and machine learning techniques, establishing that early gestational immune dysregulation can predict preterm birth. Since 2024, in the Ashley lab, Josh is developing deep learning models to investigate aberrant splicing in cardiovascular disease.
