Sailesh Tummala, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery
BioDr. Sailesh Tummala is an orthopaedic surgeon at Stanford Health Care with fellowship training in orthopaedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Tummala is a former collegiate basketball player who understands how to care for athletes and active patients of all ages. He specializes in nonoperative care and minimally invasive along with complex reconstructive surgeries of the shoulders, knees, and elbows. As a collegiate student-athlete, he received the national Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Award for exemplary service to his community, advocacy, and academic excellence. These values continue to define his approach to patient care.
Dr. Tummala treats acute and chronic conditions, sports injuries, and traumatic injuries with a focus on putting his patients’ needs and goals first. He has expertise in joint preservation and replacement, tendon and ligament repair and reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and fracture care.
Dr. Tummala’s research interests include developing novel surgical approaches, addressing psychosocial barriers to effective patient care, and studying biomechanics in sports injuries. He has authored over a hundred peer-reviewed publications in journals such as The American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, and The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Dr. Tummala has also written multiple book chapters, received grant funding, and given more than 100 presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. His research, passion for sports medicine, and advocacy efforts have been featured on ABC, CBS, ESPN, and other media outlets.
Dr. Tummala is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He also assists with Stanford University’s football team, men's basketball team, and takes care of multiple junior colleges and high schools across the Bay Area. -
Amanda Tun

BioAmanda Tun is a clinical research coordinator for the Department of Radiology at the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) and Stanford University School of Medicine. Currently, she oversees multiple clinical trials, specifically biobanking for lung cancer screenings receiving low dose helical computed tomography scans and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and assists in the establishment of a radiology research center at VAPAHCS. She also collaborates with the VAPAHCS's Cardiology research team on several projects to compile cardiovascular and other prognostic parameters into databases for research purposes.
