Yunyun Wang

BioYunyun is a postdoctoral scholar in Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford. She received her PhD in Genetics from Zhejiang University in China (2025), where she studied the metabolic-epigenetic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease such as atherosclerosis and angiogenesis. In 2026, she joined the Quertermous Lab, where her research focuses on uncovering the mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis using Perturb-seq technology.

Dr. Zhiyong Wang
Visiting Scholar, Genetics
BioDr. Wang is the acting director of the Department of Plant Biology, Carnegie Institution for Science, and a professor by courtesy of the Department of Biology, Stanford University. He is currently an associate editor of Molecular Cellular Proteomics, and editorial board member of Molecular Plant. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and recipient of the Humboldt Research Prize.
Dr. Wang obtained his Ph.D. in 1998 from UCLA, where he cloned the plant circadian clock gene CCA1. He did his postdoctoral research at the Salk Institute, where he studied the brassinosteroid signaling mechanism mediated by the BRI1 receptor kinase. Since joining Carnegie in 2001, his research has illustrated the receptor kinase signaling pathway that links the BRI1 receptor kinase to the BZR1 transcription factor and brassinosteroid-responsive genes in the Arabidopsis genome. He further demonstrated how the steroid signaling pathway integrates at the molecular level with other hormonal pathways, light signaling pathways, nutrient-sensing pathways, immunity pathways, and the circadian clock, to coordinately regulate plant growth and development. His lab uses combinations of genomic and proteomic approaches to understand how cellular signals are transduced and integrated through posttranslational modifications (e.g. phosphorylation and O-Glycosylation) and protein-protein interactions. His studies are elucidating the molecular mechanisms that control plant growth and mediate responses to environmental changes. -
Ziwei Wang

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy current work focuses on establishing preclinical platforms to rapidly validate the functional impact of genetic alterations in tumors using both cell and genetically engineered mouse models. We hope this system can accelerate the discovery and translation of novel cancer therapies to patients.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsClinical trials in operative procedures such as Nipple-sparing mastectomy, arm lymphatic mapping, skin perfusion and Treatments for Breast Cancer, especially local recurrence. Dr. Wapnir is institutional Principal Investigator and Chair for National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) clinical trials. Laboratory and translational research includes exploring the activity of breast iodide transporter in breast cancer brain metastasis.

(Alex) Alexandra Ward
Clinical Research Coordinator Associate, Pediatrics - Endocrinology
Bio(Alex) Alexandra Ward is a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She works on a broad portfolio of clinical research studies focused on improving health outcomes for children and adolescents through patient-centered, technology-enabled, and equity-focused approaches. In her role, she coordinates industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies, oversees participant recruitment and study operations, manages regulatory compliance, and contributes to qualitative and quantitative data analysis, scientific writing, and dissemination of research findings.
Alexandra earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a focus on Pre-Medical Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Her academic and research interests center on epidemiology, population health, and the social and structural factors that influence health across the lifespan. She is particularly interested in health equity, social determinants of health, implementation science, digital health technologies, aging, and the use of artificial intelligence to improve healthcare delivery and reduce disparities among underserved populations.
Her research experience spans pediatric endocrinology, chronic disease management, epidemiology, mixed-methods research, patient-reported outcomes, and community-engaged research. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations and has collaborated on studies examining diabetes technology, healthcare access, quality of life, and interventions designed to improve health outcomes for diverse patient populations.
Alexandra plans to pursue a PhD in Epidemiology, where she hopes to develop innovative, data-driven approaches to address complex public health challenges and advance equitable healthcare through interdisciplinary research.
