    Jonathan Rosa

Associate Professor of Education and, by courtesy, of Linguistics, of Anthropology and of Comparative Literature

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am currently working on two book projects through which I am continuing to develop frameworks for understanding ethnoracial, linguistic, and educational formations. The first examines racial reckonings across distinctive societal contexts by interweaving ethnographic analysis of diasporic Puerto Rican experiences and broader constructions of Latinidad that illustrate race and ethnicity as colonial and communicative predicaments. The second spotlights decolonial approaches to the creation of collective well-being through educational and societal transformations based on longstanding community collaborations in Chicago.

    Lorenzo Rosa

    Visiting Scholar, Program-Bao Z.

BioDr. Lorenzo Rosa is a Principal Investigator at the Carnegie Institution for Science and an Assistant Professor (by courtesy) at Stanford University. He is an environmental engineer whose research focuses on the resilience and sustainability of water, energy, and food systems under climate change and resource constraints.

His work combines systems modeling, hydrological simulation, techno-economic analysis, life-cycle assessment, optimization, and geospatial data science to evaluate emerging technologies and identify pathways toward sustainable development. His research spans water scarcity, climate-resilient agriculture, low-carbon fertilizers and fuels, and the environmental and economic feasibility of emerging climate solutions.

Dr. Rosa earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and completed postdoctoral training at ETH Zurich. He collaborates with academic, industry, and policy partners to translate scientific discoveries into actionable solutions. He also serves as an advisor to Ammobia, a climate technology company developing green ammonia production systems to support industrial decarbonization.

His contributions have been recognized through the American Geophysical Union Science for Solutions Award, the Leonardo Award in Engineering, Forbes 30 Under 30, and designation as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher.

    Johanna S. Rosado Lozoya

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Dermatology

BioDr. Johanna Rosado is a postdoctoral researcher in dermatology, mentored by Dr. Anne Chang and Dr. Zakia Rahman, studying skin frailty as a potential window into systemic disease, aging, and healthspan. Originally trained as a physician in Mexico City, she has four years of clinical experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, primary care, and community health.

Her research focuses on understanding how skin frailty reflects broader changes in health, function, and resilience. She is also interested in skin cancer prevention, combating health misinformation, and translating evidence into accessible, actionable information that supports healthy aging.

As a New Maps of Life Fellow, she hopes to advance interdisciplinary and community-engaged approaches to promote healthier aging, and support function and quality of life across the lifespan. Her long-term goal is to integrate dermatology, prevention, and community engagement to advance a more proactive model of healthcare focused not only on treating disease, but on helping people maintain health, independence, and well-being throughout life.
