Renyuan Xu
Assistant Professor of Management Science and Engineering
BioRenyuan Xu is an assistant professor of Management Science and Engineering (MS&E) at Stanford University. Prior to joining Stanford, she held positions at New York University (2024-2025) and the University of Southern California (2021–2024), and was a Hooke Research Fellow at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford (2019–2021). She received her Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley in 2019. Renyuan's current research interests include mathematical finance, stochastic analysis, stochastic controls and games, and machine learning theory. She received an NSF CAREER Award in 2024, the SIAM Activity Group on Financial Mathematics and Engineering Early Career Prize in 2023, and two JP Morgan AI Faculty Research Awards in 2022 and 2025.

Sheng Xu

BioDr. Sheng Xu is a tenured professor and the inaugural Director of Emerging Technologies in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. He earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Peking University and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Subsequently, he pursued postdoctoral studies at the Materials Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He then spent 10 years on the faculty at UC San Diego before joining Stanford in 2025. His research group is interested in developing new materials and fabrication methods for soft electronics. His research has been presented to the United States Congress as a testimony to the importance and impact of NIH funding.

Weize Xu
Postdoctoral Scholar, Genetics
BioDr. Weize Xu is a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Xiaojie Qiu's laboratory, where he focuses on advancing computational biology and genomics research. He earned his Ph.D. in Dr. Gang Cao's lab, where he made significant contributions to the development of computational methods and pipelines for spatial transcriptomics (MiP-Seq) and single-cell Hi-C (sciDLO Hi-C). His work during this time centered on enhancing data analysis frameworks, providing more precise insights into complex biological systems.
Dr. Xu is also an expert in the development of bioimaging processing softwares. During his Ph.D., he developed the U-FISH method, a deep learning-based approach for detecting signal points in FISH images. This innovative project involved curating a high-quality dataset from diverse sources, ensuring robust performance across various FISH data types. The resulting model demonstrated outstanding generalizability and included a user-friendly Web and LLM interface, making it accessible to researchers worldwide.
In addition to his Ph.D. research, Dr. Xu further honed his skills at SciLifeLab, where he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Wei Ouyang. There, he focused on web programming and developing key components for the Bioimage.IO deep learning platform, gaining valuable experience in creating innovative tools for computational biology.
With a solid foundation in computational biology, deep learning, and bioinformatics, Dr. Xu is passionate about driving cutting-edge research and contributing new perspectives to his field. He brings a unique combination of technical expertise and a collaborative mindset to his role in Dr. Xiaojie Qiu’s lab. -
Yiqing Xu
Assistant Professor of Political Science
BioDr. Xu’s research focuses on political methodology (particularly causal inference) and comparative politics. He received his PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016, an MA in Economics from Peking University in 2010, and a BA in Economics from Fudan University in 2007.
His work has been published in leading journals, including American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, The Journal of Politics, Political Analysis, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Economic Perspectives, and Nature Human Behaviour.
He has received numerous professional awards, including the John T. Williams Dissertation Prize (2014), Best Article Award from American Journal of Political Science (2016), Miller Prize (2018, 2020), Editors’ Choice Award from Political Analysis (2018, 2025), Best Statistical Software Award (2024, 2025), and Emerging Scholar Award from the Society for Political Methodology (2024).
Dr. Xu is affiliated with the Stanford Causal Science Center and the Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions, as well as other research institutions. -
Yishan Xu, PhD, DBSM, CST
Adjunct Clinical Instructor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences - Sleep Medicine
BioDr. Xu is a licensed clinical psychologist in California, a Board-certified Behavioral Sleep Medicine Specialist, and AASECT Board-Certified Sex Therapist. She currently serves as the chair of the OPEC committee for the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. She completed training at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center 2017-2019. She has specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias, nightmares, and adjustment to PAP therapy for sleep apnea.
Dr. Xu grew up in China and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia, VA. She has adapted treatment for insomnia for the Chinese population, and translated the book “The Rested Child” into Chinese, which is the first evidence-based book about children and teen’s sleep disorders in China. She is the founder and director of a multicultural group practice in the SF Bay Area: Mind & Body Garden Psychology Inc. She also hosts a podcast "Deep into Sleep" to help bridge the gap between public awareness and knowledge of sleep problems and the science of sleep medicine.

BioI am a California Naturalist, Midpeninsula docent, and lifelong learner with a background in finance and product management. I came to the U.S. as an international student and later built a career in technology. Over time, I felt drawn back to ecology—particularly field observation, plant–fungus relationships, and the natural and cultural history of landscapes.
I am taking courses at Jasper Ridge to train my eye, ground my understanding in science, and learn directly from living systems. I am especially interested in how ecological knowledge can be translated into meaningful public interpretation, so that people without formal science backgrounds feel welcomed into nature.
I hope to be known as someone who listens closely to the land, learns carefully, and shares knowledge in a way that is accessible, thoughtful, and rooted in place. -

His research focuses on advancing sustainable energy systems, with an emphasis on techno-economic analysis and modeling of carbon capture retrofits for industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency. He earned his Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, where he specialized in the techno-economic assessment of carbon capture technologies, data center cooling, and combined cooling and power systems. BioDr. Eitan Yaffe is a computational biologist studying the evolution of natural microbial communities under selective pressures, such as antibiotics. He is currently a research associate in the lab of Dr. David Relman at Stanford University, where he develops experimental and computational approaches to investigate strain dynamics, horizontal gene transfer, and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in the human microbiome.
Dr. Yaffe holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he focused on epigenetics and chromatin folding. He earned his MSc in Computer Science with a specialization in the 3D structure of protein channels, and his BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. -

BioHello, whoever is reading this! My name is Connor, and I am a recent Mechanical Engineering PhD graduate advised by Ken Salisbury. My research focused on non-anthropomorphic means for robotic in-hand manipulation, specifically, how vibrations can be used to move grasped parts in desirable ways. The totality of my dissertation provides both a solid theoretical and practical foundation for the use of vibrations for robotic in-hand manipulation. Post graduation, I hope to apply the research and electromechanical skills I have learned to robotics in general, though I still view the "hand" as perhaps the most interesting and elusive part of robotics today.

BioLisa Yamada is a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering, working with Professor Paul Nuyujukian in the Brain Interfacing Laboratory at Stanford University. She is interested in applying data science and engineering tools for medical applications towards higher quality and more equitable care. As a computational neuroscientist and clinical research coordinator, she is currently investigating quantitative measures for seizure analyses using human neuroelectrophysiology data (e.g., intracortical EEGs of participants with refractory epilepsy). She graduated from Trinity College (Hartford, CT) with BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics and earned her MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities like hiking.

Natsuhiko Yamada

BioNatsuhiko Yamada is a pediatrician and AI researcher at National Center for Child Health and Development (NCCHD), Japan. As a clinician, he cares for critically ill pediatric patients referred and transported from across Japan, and has reported a novel genetic mutation in hematologic disease. At NCCHD Research Institute, he serves as Principal Investigator, leading AI predictive modeling research using real-world clinical data in collaboration with Japan Institute for Health Security.
He is also pursuing a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has contributed to global burden of disease studies with researchers across the globe. Previously, at Institute of Science Tokyo, he published on cancer metabolism and was awarded a WILEY Top Cited Article. In 2026, he was selected as a Stanford CARE Scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Beyond research, he has demonstrated strong global health leadership. As Project Lead at the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community, he led policy proposals for Okinawa Prefecture, the poorest prefecture facing a health crisis in Japan. He collaborated with Okinawa Medical, Nursing, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Associations and professors across Japan, and potentially impacted an estimated 1.5 million residents. He also served on the Committee for Shaping a New World at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, moderating a flagship session to redefine the future of mental health in 2050.
He envisions a world where every child and every person can enjoy sound health, regardless of where they are born or live, at the intersection of clinical medicine, molecular biology, public health, and artificial intelligence. -
