Current Research and Scholarly InterestsNora Kassner's current book project, Hard to Place: Homosexuality, Foster Care, and the Remaking of the American Family, places gay and lesbian foster parents at the heart of the transformation of American family policy in the late twentieth century. Between the 1970s and the 1990s, gay and lesbian foster parents won the right to care for 'homosexual' teens, then children with HIV-AIDS, and then laid the groundwork for the legalization of gay parenthood across the United States.

Grad Writing Tutor, Hume CenterBioSuchismito Khatua is a scholar of twentieth- and twenty-first-century literary and visual cultures from South Asia and its diasporas. His doctoral work traces figurations of negativity and discontent across post-revolutionary avant-gardes, including poetry, fiction, cinema, and computational media, moving between Postcolonial Studies, Feminist and Queer Theory, Critical Caste Studies, and Translation. He was previously affiliated with the University of Calcutta, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and the Freie Universität Berlin. He writes in both Bangla and English.

DBC Monitor, Hume CenterCurrent Research and Scholarly InterestsMy current research lies at the intersection of higher education, immigration, and family studies, with an emphasis on how the children of Latinx immigrants make sense of their higher education trajectories and aspirations. I am particularly interested in the role of families within college choice decision-making and employ both qualitative and data science methods to investigate how familial values and knowledge is employed throughout the college application process for Latinx students.
