Bio
Estephannie joined Stanford in July 2023 as a REACH Post-Baccalaureate Research Scholar. She is part of Dr. Jean Y. Tang’s lab, in the Dermatology Department, where her research focuses on Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare disease that causes the skin and mucous membranes to blister easily. Her research aims to outline patient barriers/hesitancies towards participating in clinical trials and genetic testing. She also assists in a project intended to increase access to home genetic testing kits. Previously, she conducted research on the effects of estrogen on sex differentiation in African Clawed frogs at UC Berkeley. She also assessed the safety and effectiveness of a compound known to degrade synthetic estrogens. This research aims to address the disparities of environmental racism imposed on vulnerable populations who often do not receive the best wastewater treatments. Estephannie aspires to become a physician who provides high-quality care rooted in justice and creates innovative pipeline programs to increase the retention of students from underserved backgrounds in STEMM to diversify the field.
