Jean-Michel Borit
Masters Student in Electrical Engineering, admitted Autumn 2021
Bio
Born in Lima, Peru, Jean-Michel moved to the U.S. to pursue a B.S. in physics at Stanford. He is currently enrolled as a co-terminal EE MS student. Jean-Michel's research interests include quantum photonics and quantum information science, with a focus on diamond color centers, inverse design, and cavity quantum electrodynamics. He is a co-author of a number of refereed journal and conference publications in these fields. Prior to enrolling at Stanford, Jean-Michel was a member of Peru's national fencing and debate teams. At Stanford, he enjoys practicing taekwondo, hiking, and spending time with his friends.
Honors & Awards
-
Departmental Honors, Stanford University Physics Department (June 2024)
-
Award for Excellence in Honors Thesis Presentation, Oral Communication Program (June 2024)
Current Research and Scholarly Interests
Diamond photonics and inverse-design for applications in quantum information
Work Experience
-
Researcher, Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (July 2023 - August 2023)
Worked with slow-light waveguides to enhance the emission of erbium dopants in silicon. These emitters hold vast potential for applications in quantum networks based on their CMOS-compatibility and telecom-wavelength emission.
Location
Hans-Kopfermann-Straße 1, 85748 Garching bei München, Germany
-
Researcher, California Institute of Technology (July 2024 - September 2024)
Studied optimal control methods for ytterbium ions in yttrium orthovanadate. These qubits hold vast promise for quantum communication schemes requiring multiplexed entanglement.
