Current Research and Scholarly Interests
My niche in this world is exploring how humans, kids and adults, learn and grow with each other through play. I am interested in how technologies (digital and analog) may encourage greater, more accessible emotional co-regulation.
I explore definitions of adult-child co-regulation, its social mechanisms, its impact on psychological well-being, and related play-based activities.I aim to center trauma-responsive practices and design for historically marginalized communities. I have worked on various ways of bringing people together to learn, including designing women's health workshops in Nepal, re-imaging play-based activities that teach social-emotional skills, building a web experience for educators to learn about using technology in classrooms, and rethinking park visitor centers in Japan to center the human-nature connection.
My current projects are:
(1) Documenting the experiences of people who have survived gender-based violence through an ethnographic study funded by the Asian American Research Center at Stanford
(2) Designing a digital platform to house 'moving lullabies', ten-minute dyadic activities for adults to teach social-emotional skills to children outside of the classroom.
