Bio

Growing up as a First-Generation, Low-Income student in San Francisco, California, Joaquin-Emiliano came to understand the transformative and opportunistic power of education early on. This ultimately motivated him to earn his B.S. in Psychological and Brain Sciences and B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his M.A. in Education with a concentration in Policy, Organization, and Leadership from Stanford University. Prior to earning his M.A., Joaquin-Emiliano worked for five years as an academic advisor at the University of California, Santa Barbara and cherished every moment of it. He has also had his fair share of experiences conducting academic research.

With a passion to support students through the complexity of a college education, Joaquin-Emiliano strives to always foster a sense of hope and inclusion while attuning to cultural and social contexts as much as possible. He is grateful and excited to be a part of the CLAS community and hopes to ultimately pay forward all the support he has received throughout his life, whether through friends, family, or mentors, by working in academic advising. At CLAS, he carries out academic-related procedures, including course scheduling, degree progress tracking, admissions management, academic policy upkeep, financial aid processing, and acting as a resource hub for students. He also provides administrative support for the center's interdisciplinary academic programs and opportunities like our student research fellowships and grants, faculty funding opportunities, and visiting scholar programs like the Tinker Visiting Professorship and Luksic Visiting Scholars program.

In his free time, Joaquin-Emiliano enjoys exploring places with his significant other, rooting for his favorite sports teams, watching movies, playing games, visiting amusement parks and arcades, spending time with his guinea pig, and geeking out over his favorite fandoms.
