Joaquin-Emiliano Chavez
Academic and Student Services Officer, Center for Latin American Studies
Bio
Growing up as a First-Generation, Low-Income student in San Francisco, California, Joaquin-Emiliano Chavez came to understand the transformative and opportunistic power of education at an early age. This ultimately motivated him to earn his B.S. in Psychological and Brain Sciences and B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his M.A. in Education with a concentration in Policy, Organization, and Leadership from Stanford University. Prior to earning his M.A., Joaquin-Emiliano worked for about five years as an academic advisor at the University of California, Santa Barbara and cherished every moment of it. He has also had his fair share of experiences conducting academic research.
With a passion to support students through the complexity of a college education, Joaquin-Emiliano strives to always foster a sense of hope and inclusion while attuning to cultural and social contexts as much as possible. He is grateful and excited to be a part of the welcoming CLAS community and hopes to ultimately pay forward all the support he received throughout his life journey, whether through friends, family, or mentors, by working in academic advising.
In his free time, Joaquin-Emiliano enjoys exploring places with his girlfriend, rooting for his favorite sports teams, watching movies, visiting amusement parks, spending time with his guinea pig, and geeking out over his favorite fandoms.
