Bio


John Schmerge is currently the interim Associate Laboratory Director for the Accelerator Directorate at SLAC. Dr. Schmerge has worked at SLAC for approximately 30 years conducting research on high brightness electron injectors for free electron lasers (FEL) and ultra fast electron diffraction (UED) applications. He has also played key roles in the construction of the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), LCLS-II and UED Department of Energy user facilities at SLAC. Dr. Schmerge received his PhD from Stanford University in 1996 while researching compact and high efficiency FELs.
