Bio

John Su, MD, MA, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Associate Medical Director for the San Jose Fire Department. He is an emergency physician and EMS physician-scientist with fellowship training in Emergency Medical Services and an MA in Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Su’s academic work focuses on improving the quality, safety, and delivery of prehospital care, with particular attention to children and older adults. His research integrates artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, biostatistics, and implementation science to develop and evaluate clinical decision support tools, quality measurement strategies, and system-level interventions. By partnering with EMS agencies, health systems, and community organizations, he studies how these approaches can be integrated into routine practice, inform EMS policy, and strengthen systems of care across diverse populations and settings.

In his role with the San Jose Fire Department, Dr. Su provides EMS medical direction, quality improvement, and clinician education. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Safe Passages, supporting community-based programs for children, youth, and families.
