Bio


Karen is a business executive with experience at leading-edge high tech companies —from start-ups to Fortune 500’s. She has held management roles at Apple Computer and at Cellular One, an ATT company. She also was a Senior Partner at Indigo Partners strategy consulting firm, and an Innovation Partner at SRI International.

Karen returned to academia as a consultant and Instructor in the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and then spent 7 years as an Executive Director in the Stanford School of Engineering in the Institute for Computational & Mathematical Engineering, where she taught several AI courses. She co-founded and served as Co-Director of the Women in Data Science (WiDS) global initiative which now reaches over 100,000 participants annually.

Current Role at Stanford


As Executive Director in the Department of Biomedical Data Science, Karen leads department strategic initiatives including development of an external partners eco-system. She also manages the graduate degree programs for the department and oversees a team of Student Service Officers.
