Bio


Matthew earned his undergraduate degree at California State University, Long Beach, where he was an inaugural NIH BUILD Scholar conducting neuroscience and public health research, founded TEDxCSULB to promote ideas and innovation on campus, and was nationally recognized by the JED Foundation as the Student Voice of Mental Health for his advocacy work. He then earned a Master of Science in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University before attending St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, driven by a passion for global health and medical humanities. At Columbia, he published poetry in the Johns Hopkins Medical Humanities Journal and received a Post-Graduate Fellowship advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. In medical school, he launched a program addressing global health disparities through a Davis Projects for Peace grant, gained global experience through study abroad, volunteer work, and expeditions across all seven continents, and earned the Legacy of Excellence and Humanitarian Scholarships, along with a Distinction in Scholarly Activity. As a physician, Matthew is committed to advancing sustainable improvements in healthcare and medical education while advocating for the well-being of patients, clinicians, and caregivers both locally and abroad.
