Bio
Megan serves as Senior Associate Vice President for Community Engagement, working to provide more purposeful engagement between Stanford and the external communities with which the university interacts. Her office is part of the Office of External Relations.
She previously served as Deputy Executive Director of the Haas Center for Public Service providing leadership for strategic planning, fund development, communications, student outreach, Cardinal Quarter, and alumni relations. Previously, she directed the Haas Center's Fellowships and Postgraduate Public Service team. Before returning to the Haas Center full-time in 2007, Megan led the Haas Center's Call to Serve government recruitment initiative and worked with the City of Palo Alto City Manager's Office on planning for libraries and a possible pandemic flu. She also served as nonprofits liaison for State Assemblyman Joe Simitian and for 10 years hosted Senator Simitian's monthly government access television show, Capitol Focus.
Megan has worked for over 30 years in higher education and nonprofit program development and management, primarily with organizations focused on involving young people in service learning. Her professional experience includes City of Palo Alto teen coordinator, Constitutional Rights Foundation project director, Youth Community Service founder, Haas Center for Public Service assistant director, Youth Service California executive director, and outreach coordinator for the Service Learning 2000 Center in the Stanford School of Education. She also worked as an independent consultant supporting nonprofits with event planning, fund development, and publications.
Current community involvement includes advisory and board roles with Foundation for a College Education, First Congregational Church Nursery School, Palo Alto Community Fund, Palo Alto Police Foundation, Palo Alto History Museum, and League of Women Voters Palo Alto. Megan previously had appointments to the PAUSD Parcel Tax Oversight Committee, and has also served as a community volunteer with Adolescent Counseling Services, Palo Alto Community Child Care, Palo Alto Community Fund, Leadership Mid-Peninsula, Family Resource Center Implementation Team, City of Palo Alto Comprehensive Plan Committee, Mothers' Symposium, Youth Community Service, Palo Alto Partners in Education, Partners in School Innovation, and YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula. Megan was recognized in 2008 with the Palo Alto Tall Tree Award for Outstanding Citizen/Volunteer; and in 2013 with the Lloyd W. Dinkelspiel Award for Outstanding Service to Undergraduate Education and the Margaret Ann Fidler Award for Distinguished Service to Student Affairs. In 2014, she was recognized by the California Governor's Office as a Service Trailblazer for AmeriCorps' first 20 years. She lives with her husband, Mike, in Palo Alto and has three grown children, Matt, Molly '19, and Michaela.
