Bio


Brenda Berlin joined Stanford as its University Ombuds in 2018. As Ombuds, Brenda is a confidential resource for faculty, students, staff and postdocs, focused on assisting Stanford community members to resolve disputes, and helping to ensure fair and equitable treatment at the University. She coaches individuals on navigating conflict more productively and assists them to understand formal processes at the university, and their rights under them. As a trained mediator and facilitator, she also assists groups who are experiencing conflict. Finally, she provides consultations and workshops around managing conflict and team dynamics. Prior to becoming the Stanford Ombuds, Brenda had a 30-year career as a civil rights attorney and as a clinical law professor, in positions at the Department of Justice (Civil Rights Division), the Legal Aid Society of DC and Duke University School of Law. She is also a graduate of Stanford Law School.
