Bio

Britt Carr is the Academic Technology Specialist at EdTech in the Department of Information, Resources & Technology (IRT).

Throughout his career Britt has worked for and consulted with many institutions and universities on instructional design, e-learning, serious games and simulations, and web and mobile app development.

With over 20 years of experience, Britt uses innovative solutions to make learning more relevant and meaningful to the student. In 1994, Britt produced one of the first 3D forensic animations used as evidence in a courtroom to educate a jury. This spurred his interest in pursuing a career in educational technology.

While completing his undergraduate, Britt worked with distance education and hybrid learning programs. And, during his Master's program, an internship turned into full-time employment at Internet software giant Macromedia. There, Britt created and managed Macromedia's Innovation Award program which highlighted developers’ groundbreaking uses of rich media in education and e-learning. He continued to manage this award program until 2006 when Macromedia merged with Adobe.

In 2001, Britt joined Miami University as an Instructional Designer and Technology Specialist. At Miami, he led projects that utilized serious gaming, artificial intelligence, and interactive video to help solve some of the universities’ toughest learning challenges.

From 2008 to 2014, Britt has served as an Adobe Higher Education Leader, a group of 60 of the most highly skilled and innovative educators of Adobe products from around the world. This group provided forward direction to Adobe in developing its tools for learning and educational purposes, while serving as exemplars for the possibilities of what can be achieved with Adobe technology. In 2009, he won The Best of NMC at the New Media Consortium Conference for his interactive video work at Miami University. In addition, Adobe awarded Britt with the Adobe Impact Award for his contributions to the educational community.

By 2010, Britt began consulting higher-education stakeholders across the country in developing custom instructional design, learning, and research solutions for their faculty and students. In response to many requests for custom mobile apps that faculty can provide to their students, he created SmashFact.com, a website which seamlessly allows faculty to self-produce their own apps for students’ devices.

Britt joined Stanford’s School of Medicine in December of 2015 to assist faculty with the adoption of the Canvas Learning Management system. He looks forward to working with School of Medicine faculty in creating engaging and interactive learning for many years to come.
