Johnny G. Powell
MD Student with Scholarly Concentration in Community Health, expected graduation Spring 2028
MBA, expected graduation 2028BioJohnny Powell, from Greensboro, North Carolina, is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a minor in psychology. Johnny aspires to lead medical practice in underserved communities and drive structural change to make health care more accessible at scale. While at Harvard, he led youth mentorship programming in Boston and Japan, conducted research in the natural and social sciences, and shadowed hospital physicians in Spain. As president of the Harvard Black Men’s Forum, Johnny implemented lasting infrastructure to promote public service and inclusion. After graduating, he worked as an associate consultant at Bain & Company on health care and social impact projects. Passionate about health equity, Johnny also served as research coordinator for the All of Us Research Program, a national National Institutes of Health initiative to increase diversity in health care research, at the University of Chicago.

Kao Saeteurn
MSx Fellow, expected graduation 2027
BioMajor Kao Saeteurn is an active-duty United States Marine Corps officer with a background in military financial management and recruitment. He is currently a 2026-27 MSx student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and will continue his career in the Marine Corps upon graduation. Kao was born in San Francisco and grew up in Sacramento, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps immediately after high school and served three combat tours in Iraq from 2004 to 2007 as an Administrative Specialist, Postal Chief, and Convoy Driver. He attended the University of California Davis and graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s in Exercise Biology and a minor in Education. Kao served as a Budget Officer in San Diego from 2013 to 2016, an Officer Selection Officer in Berkeley from 2016 to 2019, a Company Commander and Deputy Comptroller in Okinawa, Japan from 2020 to 2023, and a Recruiting Station Commanding Officer in Sacramento from 2023 to 2026. He plans to be a valued member in the MSx program and gain the skills necessary to further contribute to the Marine Corps as well as the wide range of opportunities that will stem from Stanford GSB.

Alexa Samaniego
Ph.D. Student in Business Administration, admitted Autumn 2022
BioAlexa is a third-year PhD student in Organizational Behavior (Micro) at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Alexa's research is inspired by her background in theatre and the performing arts. She considers how speakers and audiences experience repeated performances (e.g., entrepreneurs giving the same pitch, or trainers giving the same seminar), and why certain speakers come across as more authentic than others. Her research informs the work she does as a presentation coach in the Stanford Oral Communication program and TEDxStanford.
Prior to beginning her PhD, Alexa worked as a research associate at Achievers Workforce Institute and Columbia Business School. She received her BS in Business Psychology from UC San Diego, and her MS in Applied Psychology from San Diego State University. -
Gabriella (Gaby) Brigitte Smith
MD Student with Scholarly Concentration in Clinical Research / Surgery, expected graduation Spring 2028
MBA, expected graduation 2028BioGaby is pursuing an MD/MBA at Stanford as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. She is interested in orthopaedic surgery with research in pediatric osteonecrosis, postoperative pain management, and carpometacarpal osteoarthritis.

Dima Subbotin
MBA, expected graduation 2027
BioDima Subbotin is a product and customer experience leader who has spent the past decade building global tech products and teams, most recently helping launch a streaming platform across the Middle East and Central Asia. He thrives on connecting technology with people, from designing customer-centric services to mentoring young product managers. Outside of work, Dima is an avid runner who has completed marathons around the world and founded a community for slow runners, as well as a passionate traveler who has explored 30+ countries and led group journeys. He enjoys blending creativity and structure in everything he does, whether experimenting with new AI projects, curating cultural experiences, or helping friends navigate big life transitions.

BioSam Vaughn is a first-year MBA student at Stanford Graduate School of Business with a background in corporate finance, strategy, and operational leadership. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer at birddogs, a fast-growing retail startup in New York, where he led financing, cost optimization, and growth initiatives. Prior to that, Sam was an Associate at Boston Consulting Group, advising clients on strategic and operational challenges across industries. He earned his bachelor's degree in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University in 2021.
